Location: 333 West 34 th Street, New York, NY Hours: 9:00 AM -5:30 PM (7.5 hours/day) or as required

The purpose of this position is to apply technical expertise in database administration to optimize the organization's databases, ensuring the control, integrity, and accessibility of the database file structure of one or more databases. Responsibilities include assisting in designing and managing databases, capacity planning and performance management.

Level 1
  • Assists in configuration, installation, testing, and maintenance of database technologies and resources to ensure that all application and systems availability targets are met.
  • Troubleshoots database errors and other problems to resolve immediate customer needs.
  • Assist with the development of system backup schedules, verification testing and all related documentation requirements to ensure accurate and timely information on policies and procedures is available.
  • Work with system administrators, network administrators, help desk staff and other IT technical resources to coordinate database infrastructure requirements.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new database products and technologies, under the direction and guidance of senior colleagues, to meet current and future software application requirements.
  • Experience with Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC), Backup & Recovery using Oracle's Recovery Manager (RMAN).
  • Experience with Oracle Dataguard, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM).
  • Experience of UNIX / Linux Shell Scripting.
  • Comfortable in work with SQLPLUS command line, SQL Developer and TOAD.
  • Experience of working with Oracle Release 11.2, 12.2 and Oracle 19c.
  • Experience of performing database upgrades and apply patches.
  • Knowledge of Oracle Multitenant database environment will be a plus.
  • Must not have any problem working on a 24/7 On-Call Shifts.

Level 2

Same as level 1 with the following additional responsibilities:
  • Provides ongoing support and troubleshooting for database issues including those escalated from more junior colleagues to resolve immediate customer needs.
  • Monitors associated software such as version upgrades, patches, and tools and performance tune databases and related servers to ensure consistent database performance.
  • Performs database backup on a regularly scheduled basis, and database recovery when required to provide users with minimal interruptions in service.
  • Assists in project roll-outs by executing data migration activities to ensure solutions meet business needs.
  • Investigates, evaluates, and tests new products and technologies to meet current and future software application requirements.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Database SQL Performance Tuning diagnostic utilities, i.e. SQL Trace, TKPROF, Explain Plans, SQL Profiles, AWR Reports, and ADDM reports.
  • Experience with Oracle Flashback feature.

Level 3

Same as level 2 with the following additional responsibilities:
  • Design, install, configure, and maintain database technologies and resources to ensure that all application and systems availability targets are met.
  • Implements change management/change control processes to improve database performance.
  • Provides counseling and guidance to developers during application development to suggest best approach for the design of files and systems.
  • Produces and maintains database documentation to ensure up to date information is available.
  • Performs capacity analysis and planning for databases on file to ensure sufficient resources are available to hold needed data.
  • Develop system backup schedules, verification testing and all related documentation requirements to ensure accurate and timely information on policies and procedures is available.
  • Research new technologies/products, prepares a preliminary evaluation of technologies/products and associated costs, and develops and presents recommendations to support anticipated future business needs.
  • Guide junior database staff in the performance of their tasks to develop technical talent.
  • Experience with Oracle Database Security utilities such as Data Masking, Transparent Data Encryption, TNS Network Encryption, and Data Redaction.

Level 4

Same as level 3 with the following additional responsibilities:
  • Expert knowledge of Oracle's Database Administration functions i.e., Backup and Recovery, Performance Tuning and Database Security.
  • Provides expertise in enterprise reporting and data management tools to maximize and share learning.
  • Develops, documents, and maintains logical and physical data models for multi-phase development projects to support complex and critical organizational initiatives.
  • Establishes and documents data policies and standards for the enterprise to ensure information is available and up to date.
  • Formulates procedures to ensure that communications of data updates are distributed to all associates and that they are adhered to.
  • Consults to the IT community to understand customer data needs and requirements.
  • Provides guidance and technical coaching to less experienced staff to support effective workflow and develop technical talent
  • Expert Knowledge of Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC), Backup & Recovery using Oracle's Recovery Manager (RMAN)
  • Expert knowledge of Oracle Database Security utilities such as Data Masking, Transparent Data Encryption, TNS Network Encryption, and Data Redaction.
  • Experience of working with Oracle ASM and Exadata
  • Experience of working with Oracle Multitenant database environment will be a plus.

Level 1
  • Requires basic knowledge and familiarity with installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting database technology.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and support technical issues using standardized procedures.

Level 2
  • Requires proven knowledge and familiarity with installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting database technology, including ability to explain changes/ modifications/ improvements to applications.

Level 3
  • Requires strong knowledge and familiarity with installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting database technology, including ability to design and engineer solutions and standards.

Level 4
  • Requires seasoned expertise with data technologies, including ability to integrate solutions across technologies and systems.

Level 1
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related fields or equivalent experience
  • 1+ years of relevant experience.

Level 2
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related fields or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience.

Level 3
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related fields or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.

Level 4
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related fields or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
