This position is eligible for telework which is currently two days per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

Summary The purpose of this position is to apply technical expertise in database administration to optimize the organization's databases, ensuring the control, integrity, and accessibility of the database file structure of one or more databases. Responsibilities include assisting in designing and managing databases, capacity planning and performance management.

The selected candidate will perform information technology functions related to data analysis and usage requirements focused on data and integration-intensive initiatives.

Responsibilities Level 1
  • Assists in configuration, installation, testing, and maintenance of database technologies and resources to ensure that all application and systems availability targets are met.
  • Work with data engineers to process, cleanse, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis.
  • Work with large data sets to conduct exploratory data analysis, using error metrics to assess the effectiveness and accuracy of data sources and data gathering techniques.
  • Troubleshoots database errors and other problems to resolve immediate customer needs.
  • Assist with the development of system backup schedules, verification testing and all related documentation requirements to ensure accurate and timely information on policies and procedures is available.
  • Work with system administrators, network administrators, help desk staff and other IT technical resources to coordinate database infrastructure requirements.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new database products and technologies, under the direction and guidance of senior colleagues, to meet current and future software application requirements.

Level 2 Same As Level 1 With The Following Additional Responsibilities
  • Configures, installs, tests, and maintains database technologies and resources to ensure that all application and systems availability targets are met.
  • Apply quantitative methods including but not limited to descriptive analysis univariate and multivariate tests, statistical modeling etc., identifying opportunities to optimize and proactively performing data exploration to discover future opportunities.
  • Utilize statistical and machine learning techniques and feature engineering to identify optimal methodologies for a given problem, creating custom data models and algorithms to address business objectives and client needs.
  • Provides ongoing support and troubleshooting for database issues including those escalated from more junior colleagues to resolve immediate customer needs.
  • Monitors associated software such as version upgrades, patches, and tools and performance tune databases and related servers to ensure consistent database performance.
  • Performs database backup on a regularly scheduled basis, and database recovery when required to provide users with minimal interruptions in service.
  • Assist with the development of system backup schedules, verification testing and all related documentation requirements to ensure accurate and timely information on policies and procedures is available.
  • Assists in project rollouts by executing data migration activities to ensure solutions meet business needs.
  • Investigates, evaluates, and tests new products and technologies to meet current and future software application requirements.

Level 3 Same As Level 2 With The Following Additional Responsibilities
  • Design, install, configure, and maintain database technologies and resources to ensure that all application and systems availability targets are met.
  • Implements change management/change control processes to improve database performance.
  • Provides counseling and guidance to developers during application development to suggest best approach for the design of files and systems.
  • Produces and maintains database documentation to ensure up to date information is available.
  • Performs capacity analysis and planning for databases on file to ensure sufficient resources are available to hold needed data.
  • Develop system backup schedules, verification testing and all related documentation requirements to ensure accurate and timely information on policies and procedures is available.
  • Research new technologies/products, prepares a preliminary evaluation of technologies/products and associated costs, and develops and presents recommendations to support anticipated future business needs.
  • Guide junior database staff in the performance of their tasks to develop technical talent.

Level 4

Same As Level 3 With the Following Additional Responsibilities
  • Leads the research for emerging database technologies that are saleable or for proposed database solutions to support anticipated future business needs.
  • Design, engineer and document database solutions and standards to ensure meet business needs.
  • Develop processes and tools to continuously monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy and implement improvements in quantitative solutions.
  • Lead research projects, working with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business solutions and recommend solutions to technology and business problems.
  • Provides technical leadership to project teams in their area of expertise to maximize and share learning.
  • Participates in disaster mitigation and recovery plans for databases supported to provide users with minimal interruptions in service.
  • Develop system backup schedules, verification testing and all related documentation requirements to ensure accurate and timely information on policies and procedures is available.
  • Contribute to the planning and coordination of tasks associated with database installations, support and maintenance to ensure ongoing database performance.
  • Provides guidance and technical coaching to less experienced staff to support effective workflow and develop technical talent.

Qualifications
  • Deep knowledge of data analysis and usage requirements
  • Experience with Business Analysis and functional requirements analysis
  • Expert in data mining and information analysis to generate insights
  • Strong understanding of data and integration architecture
  • Expert level understanding of ETL fundamentals and experience building efficient data pipelines using Extract Transform Load (ETL) tools
  • Advanced data processing, programming skills using SQL-based technologies, as well as other languages like Python.
  • Experience working with major database technologies including SQL Server, Oracle as well as NoSQL and file-based data storage.
  • Experience with cloud data movement and compute technologies including Azure Data Factory, Logic App, Databricks and storage technologies including Azure Managed instance, Azure Data Lake, Azure synapse analytics
  • Competent in information taxonomy creation, information visualization, information modeling, and data warehousing techniques
  • Experience with BI tool, particularly Power BI is a plus
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Understanding of business context and objectives
  • Experience working on a project using Agile delivery, and DevOps practices

    DESIRED SKILLS
  • A deep understanding of Data Warehouse, data lake concepts, database technologies. • Expert level understanding of ETL/ELT fundamentals. • Experience using Extract Transform Load (ETL) tools such as SSIS as well as with cloud data movement, compute and storage technologies including Azure Data Factory, Data Bricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake. • Experience with data modeling, architecture, and performance optimization. • Experience with major database platforms including Oracle, SQL Server as well as Cloud databases. NOSQL experience is a plus. • Experience with advanced data processing, programming skills using SQL-based technologies, as well as other languages like Python. • Experience in modern DevOps practices (including Git, CI/CD) • Experience with BI tools is a plus

Education and Experience

Level 1
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related fields or equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience.
