Data/Business analyst Location: NYC, NY Must have 10+ years of experience Onsite only, No Remote Position Description:

As part of strategy to design and implement industry leading applications Morgan Stanley Global Banking Technology team is looking for a Business Analyst to join our technologically advanced Data & Risk Management team. The individual will need to be hands on with the data to help develop project solutions and identify issues/opportunities. He/ she embodies the firms? core values, collaborates across the organization, and works within in their team with excellence and innovation. The individual will work as part of an Agile squad(s) and interact with other squad members as well as external stakeholders including business and technology partners (local as well as global) across Wealth Management to deliver the objectives. To be successful, the role will require him/her to understand the banking technology landscape, and to offer creative solutions that integrate current capabilities, vendor capabilities, proprietary system builds, and the ability to adapt to changing business requirements.

The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated team player committed to delivering on time and able to work under minimum supervision. The candidate should expect to work in a global virtual team, sometimes across multiple time zones. Key Job Functions/Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Be a subject matter expert for banking product data. Assist data consumers and development teams by taking on data research/analysis tasks and answering questions about the data
  • Understand and document data requirements for banking products and relationships between data in the data warehouse.
  • Understand the upstream and downstream impacts.
  • Help to create documentation that outlines data lineage and a framework for data governance. Work to define and implement data quality controls on critical flows and data.
  • Drive requirements analysis across multiple programs in the department. Lead all aspects of Business Requirements from elicitation to business process flow mapping to proposing new functionalities to users for optimizing their processes.
  • Drive Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions with the Business Stakeholders, system architects and technical analysts.
  • Manage the requirements backlog, prioritization, estimations and planning, write User Stories defining acceptance criteria as well as support User acceptance testing and business adoption.
  • Work with the developers to define/document existing application infrastructure / architecture.
  • Assist with QA/Testing to review/refine test plans and create more detailed test cases.
  • Support in responding to Audit queries related to Business process and IT implementation.
  • Work with the project team and business to identify and resolve issues that arise during projects or as part of day-to-day business operations.
  • Proactively manage changes in scope, identify potential risks, and devise contingency plans.
  • Build, develop, and grow relationships with IT and areas vital to the success of the project.
  • Work as part of a banking Agile Squad / Fleet and participate in all aspects of SDLC (analysis, design, coding, testing and implementation).
Skills Required:
  • 10-12 years of demonstrated experience in a large complex banking organization or major consulting firm acting as a Business analyst or similar role.
  • Deep domain & system knowledge to turn customer needs into business requirements and technology business outcomes.
  • Thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements.
  • Competent and experienced in technology environments (e.g., platforms, applications, databases, organizational structure and culture, teams involved in the successful completion of technology initiatives, etc.).
  • SQL experience in data analysis and working knowledge on Agile Scrum or Kanban lifecycles.
  • Good communication, teamwork, and influencing skills; ability to communicate effectively with the team and key business representatives.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of requirements of large enterprise applications (security, entitlements, etc.)

  • Effective time management
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines for both project and non-related tasks
  • Experience with working in an Agile squad/chapter setup. Practiced understanding of Agile development methodologies and understanding of DevOps Integration
  • Strong familiarity with Agile software/tools (e.g., JIRA) and DevOps processes and tools (e.g., Jenkins and TeamCity).
  • Proficient with MS Office applications: Excel, Visio, Word, and PowerPoint and usage of SharePoint, JIRA, etc.
Skills Desired:
  • Knowledge of Financial markets, lending based products and Wealth Management
  • Good database/SQL skills desired for the work is focused on databases.
