Come join a diverse and collaborative group of engineers within the Aladdin Sustainability Lab (ASL). Aladdin Sustainability Lab drives the development and delivery of sustainable data, research, analytics and technology as a product. As a member of the ASL, you will be working with financial modelers, climate scientists and ESG experts to build the best-in-class climate models and software for the firm and its clients, to manage risk associated with climate and ESG in asset management.

The engineering team is to develop the APIs, UIs and data solutions that deliver these exciting new products to investors at BlackRock, the many financial institutions who use Aladdin and importantly the communities they serve. The team is also responsible to build next generation of climate analytics platform to allow researchers to run their models with large compute. Your role

Based in the US (preferably in New York), the Head of Engineering in Aladdin Sustainability Lab will lead the growing team of 15 ASL engineers and report to the Head of the Aladdin Sustainability Lab. In this role, your focus will be to oversee technical aspects on Sustainability including product (UI and API), climate analytics platform and data. You will work closely with our product managers, program managers, climate and financial scientists, and other software engineering teams in multiple regions. The product you will be working on will be delivered as part of Aladdin, a technology platform serving many asset managers and financial institutions. Your work will be visible not only to BlackRock but also to the large community of Aladdin users.

Responsibilities
  • You build and manage a global, high performing engineering team within ASL.
  • You define the technology strategy for this area, in collaboration with the ASL and Aladdin leadership. As the area is nascent, the strategy defined will be foundational.
  • You lead all aspects of technical implementation in Sustainability from architecture design to development, testing and release.
  • You establish a scaled agile team - sprint grooming, product increments, retrospectives, demos, and actively share knowledge across the team.
  • You define and maintain clear roles and responsibilities to senior tech leads in the team.
  • You work closely with various stakeholders to identify, mitigate and escalate issues and roadblocks.
  • You develop strong partnerships with modelers, product managers, sustainability experts with the ASL, as well as with the BlackRock engineering team and the Aladdin business at large.
  • You learn on a subject-matter that is nascent and evolving fast

Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience (10+ years) as a technical lead and people manager
  • 10+ years hands-on experience in system design in large scale APIs and data management.
  • Experience on cloud technology such as Kubernetes, Docker, storage in Azure or Google Cloud Platform is a big plus
  • DevOps experience including GIT, branching, test automation and pipelines. An eye for quality with an emphasis on test driven development.
  • Experience in gRPC, Protobuff and Swagger is a plus.
  • Project and issue tracking systems, ideally Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with climate and ESG related products or financial software.
  • Ability to lead broad stakeholder's relationships and work in complex environments
  • Effective communication and presentation skills (written and verbal)
  • Avid curiosity in learning on a nascent area
