The program includes laboratories focused on Gastrointestinal Mechano-transduction (PI Beyder) and Enteric Neurobiology (PI Linden). Overall, the ENSP at Mayo Clinic has a broad interest in using cutting-edge techniques to understand cellular and molecular mechanisms of gastrointestinal function in health and disease. The latest studies from the group have contributed high-impact publications to the multiple recent discoveries related to the gastrointestinal tract, probably the most important organ in your body. The goal of this project is to use animal models and patient samples to determine the mechanisms of enteric neuro-epithelial connections in the gastrointestinal tract, which are important for sensory processing in the gut. The studies are highly multi-disciplinary and involve enteric neuro- and epithelial-biology, mechanobiology, and assays of cellular/circuit physiology. While a background in gastrointestinal or neurobiology research is preferred, it is not required. Instead, we are looking for an accomplished, talented, and motivated student to work, learn and ultimately lead experiments within a large multi-disciplinary team. For more details contact: David R Linden PhD linden.david@mayo.eduThe Graduate Research Employment Program (GREP) is a post-baccalaureate program for participants with an interest in biomedical research.
