Description We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Referral Specialist. The Medical Referral Specialist will be responsible for coordinating patient referrals to specialists, diagnostic services, and other healthcare providers as required. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, excellent communication skills, and the ability to navigate complex healthcare systems efficiently.Key Responsibilities:

Patient Referral Coordination: Manage the process of referring patients to specialists, diagnostic facilities, and other healthcare providers as directed by physicians.

Documentation: Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all referral requests, authorizations, and communications with patients and providers.

Insurance Verification: Verify insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for referred services, ensuring compliance with insurance requirements and guidelines.

Appointment Scheduling: Coordinate patient appointments with specialists and diagnostic facilities, taking into consideration patient preferences, availability, and urgency of care.

Follow-Up: Monitor the status of referrals to ensure timely completion of appointments and services. Follow up with patients and providers as needed to address any delays or issues.

Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies regarding referral status, requirements, and authorization processes.

Quality Assurance: Review referral documentation for completeness and accuracy, identifying and resolving any discrepancies or errors.

Data Management: Maintain organized records of referral activities, including tracking referral outcomes, appointment dates, and follow-up actions.

Compliance: Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies related to patient privacy, healthcare documentation, and referral processes.

Collaboration: Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team, including physicians, nurses, and administrative staff, to ensure seamless coordination of patient care.

Requirements

MEDENT, Electronic Medical Record, EMR (Electronic Medical Records), Customer Service

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.

Previous experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in medical administration or coordination roles.

Proficiency in medical terminology and understanding of healthcare procedures and services.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, providers, and insurance companies.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Knowledge of insurance processes, including verification, authorization, and billing procedures.

Proficiency in computer applications, including electronic medical records (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Willingness to adapt to changes in healthcare policies, procedures, and technology.

Commitment to providing high-quality patient care and customer service.

Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed.

Certification in medical assisting or healthcare administration is a plus.
