ASRC Federal Field Services, a Subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is currently seeking an IT Help Desk Administrator at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY. (1.5 nautical miles off North Fork of Long Island & 6 nautical miles off coast of Old Saybrook, CT). Marine transportation furnished by Gov't provided ferry.

Summary: Serves as desktop support and information assurance IT professional within a diverse Information Technology Department. Provide support for Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, Active Directory, Apple OS X, and Linux/Unix platforms. Support programs and processes and procedures in alignment with the ISO 9001 registration, Federal Information security Act (FISMA), NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF) and applicable agency specific policies and directives. Provide system administration and technical support to end-users to include customer support, technical assistance and training to system users. Respond to user requests by phone or in person. Troubleshoot technical issues & operations, install computers, peripherals, and software.

Roles/Responsibilities:
  • Load and configure operating systems or applications such as word processing, database and third-party software. Diagnose and remediate hardware, software, and operator problems.
  • Maintain database(s) record of all IT assets and job tickets. Perform tasks in support of the DHS Personal Property Management Program; serve as Personal Property Custodian
  • Escalate jobs to system administrators as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose software, hardware and network anomalies.
  • Monitor and respond to Support Help Desk.
  • Train users on e-mail network and program usage.
  • Document and submit work tickets associated with tasks. Work as a member of IT team in support of various technical systems through facility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by department manager.

Responsibilities

HS Diploma or equivalent with 5-6 years of related (technical customer service) experience. Assignments may require entry into biocontainment facilities, utility plants, and a variety of storage buildings & constructions sites. Must be physically able to move freely in environments that are restrictive in space, unsteady or otherwise not easily attainable. Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. As a condition for employment, all personnel entering the BSL-3 biocontainment facilities at Plum Island shall not be in contact with specific susceptible animals and their premises off Plum Island for a period of five (5) days after leaving biocontainment. Currently, restricted species are cattle, sheep, goats, deer, other ruminants, and swine. Contact with horses, birds (agricultural and pet birds) and rabbits are normally permitted, but restrictions may be placed on staff working with or near contagious agents affecting these species. Restricted livestock or other restricted animals may not be housed on the premises where the employee lives and where the quarantine cannot be enforced. Must be a US citizen and be eligible for PIADC clearance, possess a valid driver license and must undergo required physical examination and vaccinations.
