JOB SUMMARY: The IT Security Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the security strategies, policies, and practices that safeguard the organization's IT infrastructure, data, and systems. This position requires independent judgment, strategic planning, and technical expertise to identify, assess, and mitigate risks while ensuring compliance with security regulations. The IT Security Specialist will work closely with senior leadership and external partners to maintain a secure, efficient, and compliant IT environment for the agency. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Regulatory and Corporate Compliance

Attend mandatory trainings/meetings.

Ensure records, files, and reports are kept secure and confidential.

Create, implement, maintain, and review detailed documentation of security incidents, resolutions, and preventative measures.

Ensure compliance with industry regulations and internal security policies.

Prepare reports and presentations on security status for management.

Complete analysis of network security and security incidents to identify areas for improvement set by department procedures.

Financial Management

Review Expenditures and make recommendations to efficiently manage department finances.

Assist with preparation of department budget.

Review licensing for all associates.

Person Centered Services

Respect the individual’s right to privacy and confidentiality by appropriate use of written and verbal communication.

Work collaboratively with others.

Program/Service Management

Continuously monitor network traffic, security logs, and system alerts for signs of breaches or unauthorized access, coordinating coverage with other department associates.

Develop and implement a response protocol for network security incidents.

Respond contemporaneously to security incidents, analyze the cause, and work to prevent future occurrences.

Coordinate the installation, configuration, and maintenance of firewalls, anti-virus software, and other security tools.

Ensure all security systems are up to date with the latest patches and updates.

Review bug reports prior to roll out of security patches.

Update security configurations and policies in response to evolving threats.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging cybersecurity threats and trends, recommending initiative-taking measures to protect the organization's systems.

Establish, manage, and administer user access controls, ensuring appropriate permissions are granted.

Implement and maintain multi-factor authentication systems.

Review and audit user access rights to ensure compliance with security policies.

Implement data encryption protocols to safeguard sensitive information.

Monitor and maintain backup systems to ensure data integrity and availability.

Maintain and enforce data retention and destruction policies.

Work closely with the IT operations team to integrate security measures.

Collaborate with external vendors and security consultants as needed.

Prepare and manage audits related to IT security, collaborating closely with external auditors and internal departments to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Availability to respond to security incidents outside of regular business hours is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Demonstrate effective skill in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating a wide variety of activities.

Develop, implement, and communicate policies and procedures.

Familiarity with Federal and State laws relative to the working relationship (HIPAA, HITECH, SHIELD Act, etc.).

This position requires advanced knowledge of IT security technologies and legal regulations, including the ability to design and implement innovative solutions to complex cybersecurity challenges.

Strong understanding of network security, firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.

Proficient in Windows operating systems and cybersecurity tools.

Knowledge of encryption methods, security protocols, and authentication mechanisms.

Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise independent judgment in making high-level security decisions.

Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Proactive and self-motivated with a keen interest in staying up to date with the latest security trends.

A team player with a commitment to continuous learning.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field

5+ years of experience in IT security, network administration, or a similar role plus one Microsoft Advanced security certifications required OR

3+ years of experience with multiple Microsoft Advanced security certifications.
