JOB DESCRIPTION

New York Life Insurance (NYL) is seeking a highly talented, driven team player eager to join an organization at the doorstep of a multi-year journey to transform an industry leading business through bleeding-edge Insurtech innovation. NYL has developed an aggressive innovation roadmap to transform the experience of buying insurance through extensive use of data, predictive models, AI, etc. The urgency for delivering innovation is intensifying: Life Insurance industry leaders are developing competing roadmaps, over $2B a year is invested in Insurtech startups to disrupt industry leaders, and the race for digital health data to dramatically simplify the buying experience is next.

The Lead Business Analyst role is critical to delivering our innovation roadmap. It requires a highly organized problem solver with a track record of working collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team to deliver complex multi-million-dollar projects. The individual must dive deep to resolve complex issues one hour and then elevate to provide executive level updates the next. The ideal candidate must have new business & underwriting software implementation experience as well as a minimum of 5 years of business analysis or similar experience in a dynamic, complex, matrixed organization. FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure complex requirements are fully understood by configuration, development, integration and testing teams to efficiently implement and enhance the Accenture Life Insurance Platform (ALIP) for NYL
  • Manage a business analysis (BA) team, which may include employees, ALIP consultants and Automated Underwriting Rules Assessment (AURA) Rules Engine consultants
  • Provide guidance, coaching and quality reviews of BA team requirement work including, but not limited to, defining business rules and use cases, creating business requirement documents (BRD) & vendor functional requirement documents (FRDs), documenting process flows, mapping data between applications, configuring products, creating executive level presentations, etc.
  • Document requirements for our most complex, high-value features
  • Partner with architects, designers and technical leads to design best practice solutions that satisfy business requirements. Requires understanding of data flow, system dependencies and interactions
  • Build trusted relationships across product owners and various solution delivery teams Requires working across multiple NYL teams and vendors to ensure business functionality is understood and properly prioritized
  • Support change requests with project management and solution delivery teams to identify impact and prioritize
  • Partner with Product Owners to define acceptance criteria for key features of new technology
  • Partner with QA/UAT to design optimal test coverage based on acceptance criteria, business impact of defects, and technical risk for defects
  • Provide requirement clarification to assist with troubleshooting, remediating and managing production issues and defects during normal business hours

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree required, or its foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Information Systems/Technology, Engineering, or Business Administration
  • 5+ years in the life insurance industry with experience in new business & underwriting
  • 5+ years of prior business analyst, configuration or engineering experience with the Accenture Life Insurance Platform (ALIP) or similar new business & underwriting software platform (e.g., OIPA, Majesco)
  • 5+ years of people management experience managing a team of analysts, consultants, business analysts, junior developers and/or configurators
  • Advanced problem-solving skills, demonstrating the ability to identify, define and understand a problem, have knowledge of root cause analysis, and research effective solutions for the customer
  • Proven leadership, negotiation and relationship management skills; experience working with large and complex business stakeholders teams
  • Passionate about process improvement and proven ability to creatively solve problems
  • Excellent presence and experience in communicating and presenting to all levels
  • Extensive hands-on experience working across multiple disciplines, presenting findings to an executive audience and publishing findings in written format
  • Handles multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Agile experience and experience agile project management tools as JIRA
