A leading utility provider located in New York, NY is looking for a Linux/ Windows Administrator for a 12+ month contract.

Some onsite work is required throughout the life of the contract, and is likely to increase over time. Local candidates only.

To be considered for this position, the client has advised that upon placement, consultants will be required to wear a mask under certain circumstances, show proof of full vaccination or submit on a weekly basis proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR diagnostic test

Requirements and skills

  • Seeking a highly motivated candidate who demonstrates a strong commitment to customer service and possesses a strong technical skills and proficiency working with RHEL Clusters, VMware Clusters, Blade server technology, Windows, and Linux/Oracle Linux operating system administration.
  • The ideal candidate is well organized, detail-oriented, flexible to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • This individual must exercise good judgment and render sound business decisions.
  • The applicant possesses strong oral and written communication skills and must provide high level documentation.
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in Information Technology) with a minimum of 8 years' experience in IT Support.
  • The successful candidate also possesses strong technical knowledge of various computing platforms and systems including but not limited to Linux clustering, Linux/Windows server builds, Nutanix and/or other Hyperconverged technologies, SAN Storage, backup technologies, and scripting.
  • Must have the ability to lift/transport all required server equipment.
  • Must be able to provide off-hour, on-call support for server and storage related issues that requires travel to various supported server location sites.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime and be flexible with work hours to respond to emergencies or scheduled work that must be done either prior to or after normal business hours.
  • Must have the means and be able to travel to various Company locations.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • There are in-person requirements for this job and post COVID working arrangements will require reporting to office locations. Normal operations will be up to 3 days a week in the office.

Desired Skills

  • Cyber Security best practices, Red Hat or Windows server certification, Nutanix and/or other Hyperconverged platforms, HP Blade and Virtual Connect experience, knowledge, and experience with SAN storage (EMC, NetApp), Red Hat Satellite server, VMWare and V-Center, Active Directory, SolarWinds, backup technologies (Commvault/Cohesity), SharePoint, and MS Office skills, familiarity with Cyber tools (e.g., Trend Micro, Tanium)

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily maintenance and troubleshooting of servers, verify and ensure tape backups are scheduled and successful daily.
  • The candidate will work with other IT and Business groups to ensure/facilitate task completion.
  • They will participate in configuring, designing, and implementing Linux/Windows server upgrades.
  • This individual must be familiar with server monitoring tools.
  • They will also be assigned projects to automate various manual processes through scripting.
  • Build and maintain Nutanix AHV and VMware ESXi environments.
  • Ensure devices in both environments have valid backups and are centrally monitored.
  • Respond and close out IT ServiceNow tickets in a timely manner.
  • Perform firmware upgrades to Cisco MDS switches and NetApp San storage environment
  • Manage and update Windows server 2019 domain controllers
  • Participate in weekly team meets and present the progress of assigned work
  • Server builds and installation of post-OS required software
  • Monitor server performance and availability
  • Good shell scripting skills with bash, ksh or perl
  • Provide first-level and second level server troubleshooting and response
  • Install and move servers and storage equipment
  • Interface with support vendors when required
