MD- US Chief Economist - S&P Global RatingsThe Position: The US Chief Economist is a high-profile, franchise position that provides key inputs across the ratings practices in the form of macroeconomic forecasts (baseline and up/downside), narratives, and analysis. S/He interacts with a wide range of internal stakeholders across S&P Global Ratings as well as market participants (investors, issuers, regulators and central banks, media).The Impact: The purposes of this position are to: i) provide the S&P Global Ratings house view on US macroeconomics, ii) as a member of the economics leadership team, provide strategic direction to economics output and influence within the firm, and iii) maintain and strengthen the strong brand of S&P Global in the marketplace.What’s in it for you?Collaborate with S&P senior economists and credit researchers across the globe (Europe, Asia/Pac, and Emerging Markets)Wide exposure as a presenter to major S&P events across the region (seminars, conferences)Intensive media interaction across top-tier television, social media, and print journalists.Widespread, frequent exposure to S&P Global senior management.Interaction with central banks, IFIs, think tanks, and investment banks.Broaden your skillset through participation in our numerous research labs.Responsibilities:Develops and owns the US macro baseline, narrative, and risk scenarios used by over 1,600 analysts in Ratings and other divisions in S&P Global.Primary public spokesperson/thought leader in the US on macroeconomic issues, including mainstream media and the conference circuit.Works closely with senior credit analysts to tell the macro-credit story.Supports other S&P Global divisions as needed when their work intersects with macroeconomics and finance.Reports to the Global Chief Economist.What we’re looking for:

Undertake rigorous research and analysis of economic and financial trends and developments in US economy (at a national level).

Prepare high-impact written reports for publication on economic and market trends.

Prepare, maintain, and update PowerPoint and other presentation materials (with back-office support) for internal and external use, including for the flagship quarterly Credit Conditions Committee round.

Develop/broaden/strengthen relationships with thought leaders and officials (central banks, national statistical offices, academics.)

Develop/broaden/strengthen relationships with tier-1 media/social media to give S&P Ratings economic views high visibility.

Preferred Qualifications:15+ years of experience as a professional economist in a combination of roles in the private financial sector, central banking, and international organizations.Advanced degree (preferably PhD) in economics and/or finance from a top tier university.Excellent public speaking skills/track record and strong communication skills.Excellent collaboration and influencing skills as the role demands working across functions and geographies.Willingness to travel and manage work across several time zones.Ability to multi-task since we are a small, high-performing team.The Location: New York, NYCompensation/Benefits Information (This section is only applicable to US candidates):S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $185,000 – $320,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications.In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.This role is eligible to receive additional S&P Global benefits.
