Description We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Trust and Estates Paralegal with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience to join our well-established law firm in Long Island, New York. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of estate planning, probate, trust administration, and related legal procedures. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment.Key Responsibilities:
(most important) Assist attorneys in the preparation and administration of trusts and estates, including drafting and reviewing wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and related legal documents.
(most important) Coordinate and manage probate filings, including preparation of petitions, inventories, accountings, and related probate documents.
(Willing to train on this) Prepare and organize estate tax returns
(Willing to train on this) Prepare Article 81 Guardianship forms
(Willing to train on this) Prepare Medicaid applications.
Conduct legal research related to trust and estate matters and stay updated on state and federal laws.
Communicate effectively with clients, beneficiaries, and other interested parties, providing updates and ensuring that all legal requirements are met.
Maintain and organize client files, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy of records.
Track and meet critical deadlines for filings and court appearances.
Coordinate with financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals involved in the estate planning and administration process.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a paralegal in trust and estate law.
Strong knowledge of New York state trust and estate law, probate procedures, and court rules.
Proficiency in legal research tools and case management software.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
High level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity.
