Project Manager - Agile CoachPLEASE NOTE THIS POSITION WILL ALLOW CONSULTANTS TO MOSTLY WORK REMOTELY. HOWEVER, AS A PROJECT MANAGER, THE CONSULTANT NEEDS TO BE LOCAL TO NYC AND ABLE TO TRAVEL TO OUR OFFICE WITHOUT ISSUE, AS NEEDED (AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE).

Job Description:

The Delivery Team Coach collaborates with the larger coaching team to understand the roadmap and necessary outcomes. Within that context, the Delivery Team Coach executes prescribed activities following an Outcomes-Based Plan in alignment with the Playbook. This includes:
  • Work with Delivery Teams to create a well-refined backlog
  • Coach team on Agile processes and ceremonies
  • Work with teams on process improvement and metrics necessary to demonstrate sprint progress to the Transformation Office
  • Establish Agile best practices in conjunction with technical best practices

Purpose and Overview:
  • The Delivery Team Coach enables Scrum or Kanban delivery teams with requisite capabilities to support strategic business objectives by applying Agile fundamentals in alignment with the Playbook and by ensuring that metrics and assessments are consistently captured and leveraged to drive continuous improvement.

Core Competencies:

LEAN/AGILE PRACTITIONER:
  • The breadth of experience in a variety of Agile practices (Lean, Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, etc.)
  • Knowledgeable of new/emerging practices and coaching techniques (attendance and participation at conferences, user groups, speaking engagements, blogging, etc.)
  • Prior experience mentoring teams to adopt Agile practices as an external coach
  • Highly efficient in forming a well-refined backlog
  • Coach and Mentor Delivery Teams towards improvement in Agile processes and metrics
  • Encouraging the proliferation of Agile best practices between different teams
  • Communicating Agile at a multi-team level and throughout the organization

SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
  • Implements Agile concepts in a pragmatic manner, within the structure, to create material business value
  • Institutes and refines beneficial ceremonies to structure fundamental team cadences
  • Establishes rhythm of metrics and assessments, leveraging both to drive additional improvement efforts
  • Recognizes impediments readily, addressing them directly or escalating them within the transformation structure to ensure resolution
  • Leverages appropriate structures to promote overall transformation success and teaches teams to do the same
  • Creates and maintains an atmosphere of safety, allowing teams to forge trust and to experiment and innovate, promoting growth and development
  • Fosters team independence and autonomy by inviting team decisions first and recommending solutions second
  • Introduces concepts in a clear and engaging manner, trying new ideas to business objectives and validating that teams can demonstrate the targeted level of comprehension
  • Copes well with intense time and deliverable pressure, maintaining focus on achieving business outcomes and making smart trade-offs
  • Manages resistance and conflict adeptly to improve trust, enhance credibility, and uncover root causes of team obstacles
  • Communicates skillfully, listening first and forming empathy before responding persuasively in a manner that is audience specific

Education/Experience/Certifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years working with Agile/Lean practices and Agile Delivery Team coaching focused on achieving success through people.
  • 2+ years coaching teams hands-on to adopt Agile practices within transformation efforts
  • Invests continually in understanding new and emerging Agile related practices
  • Invests continually in developing trends and techniques within the coaching
  • Engaged with new best practices and overall strategy for the MTA’s Agile implementation within Expedition teams
  • Proven track record of Agile Coaching highly desirable
  • Proof of certification is highly desirable
  • Understanding Agile methodology/practices
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM)
  • Understanding Product Framework
