Eligibility may vary.Position descriptionThe RN on Mayo 15 provides care for pediatric and adult patients. In this diverse practice, RNs will function in both a care team setting and a procedural testing area with a primary and secondary focus, allowing for cross-coverage.In the allergy lab setting, RNs will provide direct care for adult and pediatric patients. This environment is fast-paced, highly unpredictable, and requires extreme attention to detail. RNs will be performing skin tests; spirometry testing; allergen challenges; mixing, micro-measurement, and administration of medications; and responding to patient reactions as necessary. The Allergy Lab RN is required to have expert clinical assessment skills, exemplary attention to detail, and the ability to function autonomously in a largely protocol-driven setting.In the allergy clinic care team, RNs are responsible for in-clinic patient education visits on a wide range of topics, including asthma action plan management, environmental allergen control measures, medication management, etc. Additionally, RNs are responsible for the indirect care and management of patients over the phone and thru the electronic medical record portal. In this capacity, RNs will provide, medication management, follow-up care, outcome management, and phone triage of patient inquiries. Demonstrated teamwork and relationship building skills are important as RNs collaborate with providers, desk operations staff, and other members of the care team. This role requires expert critical thinking, time management, multi-tasking and the ability to function autonomously in an unpredictable environment. The ability to comfortably manage multiple computer applications is essential.The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and adequacy of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role.QualificationsStudent or graduate of an accredited, or those in the candidacy process, baccalaureate, associate, or diploma nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), or National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Exceptions to this may be made in the MCHS sites prior to a law change requiring accreditation expected in 2018.If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA, at least one year of RN experience (within the last 5 years) in an applicable care setting is required. If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting is required, or one year of current LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is required.All associate degree or diploma registered nurses hired into the Department of Nursing with an RN start date after April 1, 2020, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.Additional qualificationsMinimum of one year of recent RN experience strongly preferred. Current ambulatory and/or phone triage experience preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.Internal applicants should attach their three most recent performance appraisals.License or certificationMust obtain prior to start date:Current RN license by applicable state requirements.Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers- BCLS – certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date.
