JOB TITLE- SCRUM MASTER DURATION - 12 MONTHS CONTRACT LOCATION - ELMA NY 14059 / REMOTE TAX TERMS - W2 ONLY JOB DESCRIPTION The primary purpose of the job: The Scrum Master is a member of a dedicated Agile team of 5-11 people whose primary job is to assist the team in self-organizing to meets its goals. The Scrum Master is a champion of the Agile Manifesto and Lean-Agile principles and serves as the protector of the health of the team while playing any of the following roles: Performing the role of long-term coach and leader Educate & Guide the team with agreed upon Agile practices Help team remove impediments Leading large, complex projects that consist of Agile teams and potentially requiring integration and/or coordination with non-Agile teams Being facilitative and consultative in establishing the necessary people, processes, and tools and coaching team members to adopt Lean-Agile mindsets Adapting Agile methods when appropriate for hybrid environments The Scrum Master provides the right balance of guidance, coaching, and planning to help the team deliver agility and predictability. Above all, the Scrum Master is a servant leader and coach for Agile teams. Key results that this role is accountable for: 1. Project Planning and Management Maintain focus on regular delivery of value. Facilitate working meetings. Manage risks and issues. The Scrum Master values "responding to change over following a plan." 2. Team Development Assist in team development while holding teams accountable for their commitments, leveraging organizational resources to improve capacity for project work, and mentoring and developing team members. The Scrum Master actively works to eliminate impediments that block the team from making progress on their iteration goals, especially relating to dependencies external to the team. The Scrum Master also facilitates coordination with other groups. This fosters an environment for high-performing team dynamics, continuous flow of deliverables for business value, and relentless improvement of the delivery process. 3. Product Owner Support Support the Product Owner in managing customer expectations for project deliverables and managing stakeholder communications. The Scrum Master assists the product owner(s) (or proxy) in product backlog refinement and prioritization and ensures that the product owner is available to the team for detailed requirements and clarifications. Through all of these interactions, it will be evident that the Scrum Master values "customer collaboration over contract negotiations." 4. Lean Process Improvement Champion and support relentless process improvement using Lean-Agile principles by conducting Retrospectives and Iteration Reviews. Continually spread the value of "working software (or product) over comprehensive documentation" by ensuring the team provides system demos on an agreed cadence. 5. Team Coaching Coaches teams to create better solutions and improve business results. Promote empowerment of the team, ensure that each team member is fully engaged in the project and making a meaningful contribution, and encourage a sustainable pace with high levels of quality for the team. Fosters the adoption of Agile technical practices. It helps teams become self-organized and self-managed. Background (education or experience), skills, and competencies: Solid understanding of software development life cycle models and expert knowledge of Agile and traditional project management principles and practices, and the ability to blend them in the right proportions to fit a project and business environment. A proven track record of successfully implementing software, web development, or general IT projects using Agile methodologies. Prior experience with SCRUM/Agile methodologies with enterprise-level application development projects. Experience overseeing multi-function project teams with at least 10-15 team members, including Developers, Analysts, and QA Personnel Must have an advanced level of business acumen, with an ability to balance business and technical interests: Sufficient level of technical background to provide highly credible leadership to development teams and to be able to accurately and objectively evaluate complex project risks and issues Ability to provide leadership to analysts and collaborate with customers and develop strategies and solutions of high business value Creative approach to problem-solving with the ability to focus on details while maintaining the "big picture" view. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills coupled with listening, questioning, and understanding end users' needs. Typically a four-year Bachelors's degree is in either a technical or business discipline. Formal project management or Agile certification from an industry-recognized body is preferred. The Scrum Master will generally also have a minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience.
