Duties Description Provide Speech Language Pathology services to individuals in Brooklyn as part of a multi-disciplinary team.Maintain a variety of records, including but not limited to, evaluations, session notes, progress reports, treatment plans, etc. Evaluate, diagnose, and treat individuals who have difficulty with speech and/or language, including, but not limited to, expressive, receptive, and pragmatic language difficulties. This also may include the evaluation and use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).Evaluate, diagnose, and treat swallowing disorders, conduct feeding and swallow evaluations, oral-motor assessments, and other assessments as it related to the swallowing mechanism, to aid in ensuring swallow safety.Provide treatment addressing feeding and swallowing skills, including, but not limited to, therapeutic training to help the individuals strengthen the muscles used to swallow and speak. Evaluate risk of choking and aspiration and monitor individuals who are at a high risk.Recommend methods of oral intake and choking risk precautions, and in-service the staff and individuals on the recommendations. Develop treatment plans and treatment plan reviews employing appropriate therapy techniques.Travel to the homes in Brooklyn (ICF and IRAs) for observations, screenings, individual evaluations, staff training, etc. Monitor individuals who have a high need in the area of swallowing or communication.Provide current staff with training/in-services on dysphagia management, choking prevention, aspiration precautions, how to assist the individuals during feeding, language, and communication strategies, etc.Assist in training new staff (during NEO) on dysphagia/swallowing disorders, dining skills, communication, etc.Assist in Brooklyn wide initiatives to assist in increasing the swallow safety, communication, etc. of the individuals in Brooklyn.Will travel to group homes throughout Brooklyn as needed.Other Assigned duties.LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/nys-office-for-people-with-developmental-disibilities/posts/?feedView=all#LI-JJ1 Additional Comments (Flexibility as needed including some off-shift hours)POSITION DESCRIPTION:This Speech Language Pathologist 2 (SLP 2) will work in the Article 16 clinic, ICF (Intermediate Care Facility), and provide training and support to the IRA houses. The SLP 2 will provide clinical services as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team. Applying their knowledge, skills, and techniques to meet the specific needs of individuals served through oral-motor assessments, swallowing evaluations, strengthening of muscles used to swallow/speak, diet consistency recommendations, safe dining techniques, training of choking prevention/aspiration prevention, etc. By increasing the Speech Language Pathology department’s ability to evaluate and assess the risk of choking/aspiration the wellbeing of those served will be protected. Evaluations, treatment, etc. of individuals with a speech and/or language difficulties will assist the individuals in increasing their communication abilities. Additionally, training takes place for individuals using augmentative communication systems which enables them to indicate needs (pain, sickness, anger, etc.).If you are employed by state government you may be able to receive loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).
