Description We are seeking a Senior Accountant for our non-profit organization located in New York. This role involves the examination and preparation of financial data from various departments and sources, ensuring that direct expenses coded to grants and contracts are permissible under the grant/contract, and assisting in the preparation of audit schedules and related work papers. This role is based in a traditional workplace setting.Responsibilities: Gather and review financial data and information from various departments and sources, including compensation and fringe benefits, billing, accounts receivable and accounts payable, and prepare journal entries to transfer or distribute the data to the general ledger. Identify and investigate unusual or unexpected items and report them during the month-end close. Ensure that direct expenses coded to grants/contracts are allowable under the grant/contract. Maintain tracking of revenue and expenses to total contract amounts. Prepare and reconcile all billings to the general ledger. Analyze various general ledger accounts and budget to actual variances. Assist in the preparation of the audit schedules, analyses, and related work papers. Conduct program expense reviews and prepare adjustment journal entries, as necessary. Utilize Oracle, Microsoft Excel, Financial Analytics, and Account Reconciliation to perform job duties effectively. Perform other related duties as assigned. Requirements Proven experience in a similar role in the non-profit sector Proficiency in Oracle, Microsoft Excel, and other relevant software Expertise in month-end close procedures and account reconciliation Strong knowledge of financial analytics Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
