Job Description:

The Site Operations team is a crucial, valued part of Farm Sanctuary’s staff who are tasked with ensuring our Sanctuary residents have safe and healthy living environments on our 275-acre site. The Site Operations Technician plays an important role on the sanctuary team, performing hands-on maintenance and repairs for all buildings and equipment at our Watkins Glen location.

Responsibilities:

Ensures completion of facility projects

Building, home, facility maintenance

Vehicle and equipment maintenance

Plumbing, electrical and HVAC system maintenance

Fencing and gates

Supply orders

Construction projects

Evaluates maintenance and project needs, coordinating research as needed and implementing improvements/changes as approved by supervisor

Maintain building and equipment safety standards

Coordinate appointments with outside contractors as assigned

Use electronic maintenance software to track and complete work orders

Assist with landscape maintenance and snow removal

Assist with implementation of safety programs

Submit farm project reports

Participate in professional development opportunities, including expanding knowledge and skills as well as sharing expertise to support the training and development of colleagues

Act as backup to assist with animal movement and transport

Respond to off-hour emergencies, on rotating on-call shift

Preferred Qualifications:

Ideally 3 to 5 years of relevant experience working in one or more of the following trades: construction, maintenance, repairs, fleet maintenance, and/or HVAC, plumbing or electrical.

Flexibility and aptitude as a self-starter; ability to multi-task while also being highly detail-oriented

Ability to work well independently, while maintaining appropriate communication with supervisor

Reliable and dependable, with flexibility and willingness to adjust schedule when needed

Essential Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout sanctuary grounds.

Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor and lifting (up to 60 lbs regularly; team-lift heavier amounts regularly)

Must be able to bend, lift, push, stoop, stretch, climb, and crawl and other strenuous physical activities

Must be able to regularly perform job responsibilities in a variety of weather conditions; almost all work is done in outdoor setting that is not climate controlled

Utilize adequate vision, hearing, fine motor skills, and physical stamina to operate machinery safely, including the ability to detect visual and auditory signals and hazards in the work environment

Terms of employment: Permanent, non-exempt, hourly, full-time position

Reports to: Senior Manager, Site Operations

Pay: $24.00/hour

Schedule: Typical work schedule includes weekend shifts (Saturday and Sunday), rotating on call shifts and holiday availability.

Travel: Limited travel, including overnight trips as backup support for the animal transport team
