The Gutter - General Manager

The Gutter is looking for an energetic General Manager with a "Can Do" attitude who builds great teams. We have a full bar, bowling alley, and kitchen; so we need a strong leader who can manage scheduling, ordering, and general day to day operations. Customer service, front of house experience, and skill with office logistics are required. Everyone in our management team is responsible for handling minor lane issues. Don't worry, our mechanics will train you how to do so.

The Gutter Bar was founded in Williamsburg Brooklyn in 2007 with 8 vintage bowling lanes, a small music venue, and a focus on American independent craft beer. The second location opened in Long Island City Queens with 8 lanes and a small kitchen / snack bar in 2017, and in 2020 the third and largest location opened on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, with 12 bowling lanes, a large bar and dining area. LES has a full kitchen that features brick oven pizza.


Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Controlling day-to-day operations

Scheduling shifts and team development

Labor Control

Manage Beer, Liquor, Food, Merch, COGs

Oversee Asset & Facility Management

Strategize with team on promotions & social media

Oversee all avenues that drive revenue & maintain guest satisfaction

Follow and Maintain DOH Standards and Procedures

Create a positive working environment for all employees

Manage and develop Floor Managers

Oversee all FOH & BOH Positions

Handle all staffing and HR duties

Knowledge of all Beer, Food, and Cocktail items

Oversee creation and pricing of beer/bar and food menus

Oversee management of bowling leagues

Manage events and production rentals


A minimum of 3 years in high-volume Bar/Restaurant management

P & L and COGS experience and history of working with accounting personnel

Experience in maintaining all aspects of operations including HR related responsibilities

Team player with a positive attitude and problem-solving skills

Extensive guest service and resolution skills

Excellent communication skills

Working knowledge of POS systems, Google Suite, Microsoft Excel and other programs

Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays

Work with our team to meet and exceed goals set by the CEO

Establish and maintain effective relationships with management, employees and customers

Demonstrate integrity, tact, diplomacy and a commitment to company values

Must be able to work independently, under pressure, and use sound business judgment

Problem solving, reasoning, motivating, and organizational abilities are key

Fluency in multiple languages a plus

Bowling Experience and/or basic mechanical abilities a plus

NYC Food Handler Certification required


Base Salary of $75,000
