Responsibilities:

  • Engineer and deploy Operations and Maintenance of the Unix/Wintel operating system baseline image for use on all enterprise endpoints. All baseline images must meet DISA STIG and internal Security recommendations.
  • Provide engineering, deployment and transition for a broad range of current and future virtualization and hyper converged technologies and Unix/Wintel applications and technologies, or other third-party tools that integrate with products.
  • Create automation scripts and deploy orchestration and automation processes
  • Proactively address performance and anticipated user requirements
  • Support both a Windows and Linux mixed environment
  • Experience and knowledge in implementing and supporting VMware Horizon, Application Virtualization, Load Balancers, VMware vSphere, hypervisor design, hyper converged deployments, VSAN administration, Microsoft SQL, Active Directory, GPO management, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure deployments, and VMware VDI environments
  • Utilize Affinity rules application best practices
  • Be responsible for the engineering, deployment and Operations and Management of hyperconverged server and storage solutions of the environment.
  • Design overall VMWare solutions, conduct planning, requirements analysis, pre and post implementation support, training and maintenance
  • Ensure that the client's performance, security, user experience, reliability, availability, and all other functional and non-functional requirements are met
  • Assist with system accreditation and monitoring
  • Provide recommendations for future hardware requirements, as well as benchmarking and testing of hardware prior to adoption.
  • Install, configure, test and maintain system management tools for all data center network components
  • Monitor and test performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with the teams to implement those fixes
  • Maintain security, recovery, and redundancy strategies
  • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention (VROP) time on any tasks, such as automated provisioning of virtualized resources
  • Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
  • Be the liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • Provide real time alerts and dashboard information on network performance and availability
  • Document system configurations to include passwords, access controls, version number, and revision numbers, patch levels, and inventory to include hostnames, TCP/IP addresses, number of processors, and number of cores, memory, and license keys
  • Configure and deploy various server platforms
  • Diagnose and trouble-shoot VMware and other related technologies
  • Adhere to engineering and architecture standards and participate in technical review meetings as required
  • Participate in the evaluation, deployment and management of new technologies in alignment with other engineers and architects
  • Incident support and participation in on-call rotation during off hours and weekends
  • Consistently demonstrate initiative and commitment to optimizing systems and processes
  • Ensures systems are monitored and statistics relevant to capacity, performance, utilization, etc. are provided to staff and management
  • Identify areas of improvement in process or technology and presents implementation plan to management
  • Keeps abreast of current developments in server/VI technology to assist staff in assessing the future direction of server technology
Required Qualifications: BS and 3 years related experience or equivalent combination Experience in designing, installing and supporting server solutions and devices: physical and/or virtual Hands on engineering experience with VMware (to include ESX, ESXi/vSphere, vCenter, vMotion, and/or DRS) and other virtualization technologies and concepts Experience with capacity planning and sizing large VMware environments Extensive experience in performance tuning and optimizing computing platforms Must have an understanding and experience of affinity rules and their best practices application thereof Experience with data center migrations moving VM workloads Understanding of Security best practices as related to infrastructure and application architecture Strong written and oral communication Certifications:
