Duke LifePoint combines Duke’s unparalleled expertise in clinical excellence and quality care with LifePoint's extensive resources and knowledge and experience operating community hospitals and healthcare organizations.Rutherford Regional Health System includes the following: Rutherford Regional Medical Center, Rutherford Family Care, Rutherford East Family Care, Forest City Family Care, Chase Family Care, Polk Medical Specialties, Rutherford Orthopedics, Rutherford Urology, Rutherford Children's Care, Premier Women’s Care, The Mammography Place, and Rutherford Surgical Associates.The Certified Medical Assistant position is a non-exempt medical office position responsible for the smooth flow of patients in the medical office under the direction of a physician, assists medical providers, and maintains a clean and safe environment in accordance with the policies and procedures of the practice.Essential Functions:

Assists in the assessment of patient needs and health plan by taking vital signs, history, medication listing, assessing visual acuity and determining chief complaint.

Completes all necessary documentation in the patient’s medical record in accordance with practice’s charting policy.

Prepares equipment and assists providers with medical treatments, exams and procedures.

Performs administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry, and patient registration.

Administers intramuscular and subcutaneous and intradermal injections.

Maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment for patients and visitors. This includes cleaning, sterilizing, and storing instruments in accordance with practice policies. Stocks rooms in preparation for the daily work schedule. Takes inventory of medical and exam room supplies.

Provides patient with appropriate education regarding procedures, diet, and medications ordered by physician and documents appropriately.

Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.

Arranges for specialized consultations and appointments for testing as ordered by the providers.

Answering office phones, assisting front desk in scheduling appointments and directing calls appropriately. Assist in other functions of the physician practice as needed.

Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Associate's Degree in Medical Assistant preferred.

Required Skills

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Licenses

Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant required.

Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.

Phlebotomy certification is preferred.

Minimum Work Experience

Prior experience working in a physician office is preferred.
