Schwab Retirement Technologies is looking for a Database Engineer to join a small team in Charlotte, NC. This opportunity supports multiple development teams with large client facing retirement applications. You will work with results-oriented software professionals who share a passion for technology, innovation and excellence.

As a Database Engineer, you will assist the SRT DBA Team with creating deployment scripts, table design, merging SQL changes, troubleshooting, and performance improvement tasks for multiple development teams. You will assist with troubleshooting production issues, writing cleanup scripts, handling maintenance tasks, failover issues, and participating in a production support on-call rotation. The successful candidate will have a consistent track record of successfully supporting development teams and being engaged in DEV and PROD related DBA tasks.

What you are good at

  • Support end-to-end database delivery for multiple Agile teams
  • Hands-on experience with MS SQL Server and delivery Enterprise-level databases to production
  • Writing queries, views, stored procedures and other database objects
  • Provide production support and participate in on-call rotation
  • Mentor and training associates and offshore developers as needed
  • Assist with streamlining and organizing documentation, share knowledge, ideas and concepts with the team, collaborate and truly believe in the concept of team work

What you have

  • Have strong database development skills
  • 4+ years of hands on experience working with relational databases
  • SQL Server Database Administration experience
  • Have excellent SQL Server table design and development skills - T-SQL, Stored Procedures, SSIS
  • Strong ability to effectively manage multiple, competing, high-priority projects with varying deadlines and be able to work under pressure during production issues
  • Ability to work independently and work well in a small team fast-paced environment
  • Must be passionate about databases, data, and helping others
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills, coupled with a desire to take on responsibilities and deliver with minimal defects
  • Experience writing good documentation being detailed oriented
  • Able to quickly grasp complex concepts and learn new technologies
  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field preferred
  • Experience working with Microsoft Teams, Jira, Confluence, Remedy, Bamboo and BitBucket are a plus
  • Prior experience in Financial industry is a plus
