Job Overview

In this critical role, reporting the VP & CTO, the Director Engineering for the Energy business unit defines Operational Strategy, and Drives Results and Engineering Processes, Innovation and Quality Within the BU as well the following:

  • Defines operational strategy for his/her organization.
  • May contribute to Business Unit or corporate function strategy.
  • Defines and drives BU-wide policies.
  • Drives financial/operational results.
  • Directs multiple key initiatives that impact corporate/business goals.
  • Has a passion for technical innovation and can apply this passion to the design and development of products with inputs from industry marketing, product management, sales or direct customer engagement.
  • To accelerate product time-to-market and time-to-volume, this position needs to demonstrate the ability to continuously improve engineering process efficiency and product quality from design concept to mass production.

Responsibilities

Significant Management, Planning and Compliance Responsibilities

  • Typically reports to a Senior Director or CTO.
  • Overall responsibility for planning, staffing, budgeting, and managing expense priorities for area of accountability.
  • Directs a functional area through other managers.
  • Negotiates with and influences senior leaders on matters of significance to the organization.
  • Manages risk and compliance across area of accountability.
  • Interacts with executives and key external contacts.
  • Leads and grows talented engineering teams.Works closely with customers, sales, product management, manufacturing, procurement and suppliers to drive innovation and efficiencies through the manufacturing process to cost savings through materials and purchasing.

What your background should look like

High Degree of Education, Technical Competence, Process Knowledge and Communication Skills:

  • Bachelor's and/or graduate degree in a relevant Engineering or Science discipline.
  • Mininum of 5 years experience in mechanical and / or electrical engineering related positions
  • Provides input on resolving key issues that directly impact the business.
  • Adapts precedents/makes significant departures from traditional approaches to develop solutions.
  • Is proactive in acquiring knowledge and experience more rapidly for the team through training and collaboration with engineering teams in other regions.
  • Required to have a high degree of initiative, technical competence, broad engineering process knowledge and excellent communication skills.
  • Has a proven track record in driving engineering teams to deliver innovative products to customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve International customers.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in TE related industries such as Energy, Utilities and Industrial markets.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with medium and high voltage products such as insulators, arrestors and cable accessories.
