OverviewHealth information management is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and monitoring information management standards and systems to support the patient record. The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist is responsible for providing support to assess and ensure the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of documentation (through review and analysis) within the electronic health record (EHR) across the enterprise. Specialists will assess documentation compliance (through review and analysis) with all applicable regulatory agency standards (state/federal), and all internal medical staff policies, rules, regulations, and by-laws. The HIM Specialist will assign and remove deficiencies within the EHR to acute providers as applicable. The HIM Specialist will monitor and process documentation discrepancies to ensure an accurate electronic health record. The HIM Specialist performs routine quality analysis functions for vendor transcriptions. The HIM Specialist will review potentially duplicate and overlay medical records to determine if they are the same patient and handle them as needed. The HIM Specialist will also assist with other workflows related to documentation compliance and deficiency management needed for additional areas (i.e., Medial Staff Office, Revenue Cycle). The HIM Specialist will act as a training resource for various customers across the enterprise related to corrections, Dragon, partial dictation, and completion of documentation. Uses teamwork to provide the highest quality service to our customers. Education: High School Diploma or GED, Required. 2 / Year Associate Degree, Preferred. Associates Degree in Health Information Management, Preferred.
Experience: Minimum three years equivalent work experience with similar work assignments roles, and responsibilities or RHIT/RHIA in lieu of experience equivalent work experience. Internal Candidates: A combination of the above qualifications and proven success will be considered within HIM leader discretion. Required.
Licensure/Certification/Registration: RHIT, Preferred.
Additional Skills Required: Experience with fostering strong relationships with members of a medical staff; familiarity with Joint Commission, CMS, and other related regulations that pertain to medical record/hospital records. Must possess excellent analytical skills and customer service skills. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Must have the ability to work independently with limited supervision. Must be able to meet standardized productivity metrics/goals. Should have a working knowledge of HIPAA requirements. Must be comfortable in a computer based workflow and working with remote teams. Ability to drive/travel to multiple locations/facilities as needed.
Additional Skills Preferred: EPIC EHR.
