Job Description

  • The position will fill an analytical, business and operational role on the Front-End Development team. Primary focus is laboratory, laboratory automation, and PreAnalytical workflow, process improvement and major Laboratory initiatives
  • Experience in designing and executing SQL commands a plus to assist analytics
  • The individual must have a good working knowledge of the Clinical Laboratory industry, particularly with regard to laboratory, laboratory automation and PreAnalytical workflow
  • Prepares detailed business and application specifications from which computer programs will be written
  • Analyzes, reviews, and recommends programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt new requirements
  • Consults with Corporate Operations department to identify current operating procedures and clarify program objectives
  • Provides ongoing application support and participates in development efforts
  • May function as a project coordinator for tasks assigned to the team for projects
  • Research/analysis, testing and documentation of supported applications
  • The position requires the ability to function individually in a "self-directed" manner and also to form part of a larger team effort. Proper interpersonal skills are essential
  • Expertise in front-end accessioning/PreAnalytical processing is desired.
  • A basic understanding of IT systems, including a high level familiarity with relational database concepts, would be extremely helpful but not an absolute requirement
  • Competence in MS Office applications (particularly Excel and Word) is essential
  • The applicant will be expected to possess the ability to communicate effectively in a clear, concise, and grammatically correct manner
  • Effectively and objectively evaluates new tools, products and opportunities presented by external vendors to meet the needs of the team and/or the business
  • Works with external vendors to investigate and troubleshoot product issues in order to provide prompt and effective resolutions
  • Strong training/demonstration skills are required Capable of developing and conducting training/demo sessions showing the ability to connect with audience while convey technical terms and knowledge in an easy to understand format
  • Gathers feedback from end users to continually improve existing systems and efficiency
  • Ability to work well under pressure while handling multiple high priority tasks with tight timelines
  • Though the nominal work hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the individual may be required to perform duties beyond this timeframe, to include weekends
  • Once the individual shows proficiency in department activities and support, they will be expected to serve, on a rotating basis, on-call with the Front-End Development and Support team. At this time, this duty requires one week (Monday to Monday) every seven weeks
  • Ability to travel 15-20% per year as necessary, to assist in directing new implementations provide support for Laboratory projects and initiatives
License/Certification/Education: Normally requires a B.S. Degree in Computer Science with 10 years of experience in related field.

Specific Skills
  • 5-7 years Laboratory operations experience
  • 3+ years' experience interacting and presenting to internal or external clients.
  • 3+ years' experience problem solving skills and analytical abilities to assess analytical and/or reporting needs and creating deliverables
  • 3+ years' experience coordinating project activities, implementing change management and working with cross-functional teams
  • Experience in data management and analytical interpretation
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Candidate should be able to ascertain stakeholders' needs and deliver oral and written communication at an appropriate level of detail
