Job Summary

The Manager of System Engineering Services is responsible for System Engineering in a cloud computing environment. This position leads and serves as a member of a team charged with building, configuring, maintaining, and supporting a complex server environment which includes Windows and Linux platforms in the AWS cloud.

As a member of the Enterprise Architecture & Shared Services Management Team, the Manager reports to the Director and is charged to understand the goals/objectives of the team, and to provide clear leadership and coaching to ensure that all members of the team understand their roles/responsibilities and are positioned for success.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically, 10+ years experience
  • Education
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years AWS experience.
  • AWS certification highly desired.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • ITIL certification highly desired.
  • Strong platform engineering background automating provisioning of resources in AWS.
  • Experience building infrastructure as code pipelines using CloudFormation, gold images, and CDK. Configuration management automation using Systems Manager.
  • Understanding of security constructs in AWS including LoadBalancers, WAF, SGs, NACLs, Patching, CloudTrail, Guard Duty, etc.
  • Understanding of AWS cloud computing with experience building and automating landing zones, networking, provisioning, scaling, securing and self-service capabilities.
  • Experience in middleware webserver environments (Apache, NGINX) and runtime components (Tomcat, IIS, Websphere).
  • Understanding of micro service environments, tools and technologies including ECS Fargate, Kubernetes, Nodejs, Redis, Springboot.
  • Ability to lead and motivate highly skilled middleware and cloud engineers.

Essential Job Functions

  • Oversee operational support of system engineering services in an AWS cloud environment.
  • Provide systems design leadership to system engineers and develop solution designs as per the established standards on AWS Cloud Platform.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for ITIL Processes.
  • Accountable for the infrastructure and configuration of cloud solutions.
  • Design and oversee Monitoring and Alerting for key systems and services.
  • Document Design Standards for cloud solutions.
  • Document/update runbooks for operational support of infrastructure and configuration.
  • Oversee 3rd party run support.
  • Manage and oversee continuity including backup, restore and disaster recovery.
  • Manage and oversee regular (at least quarterly) backup restores of servers and storage.
  • Manage incidents, change management, problem management and asset management for all systems in North America.
  • Manage cloud costs. Work with IT stakeholders to identify and remedy cost savings opportunities.
  • Maintain vendor/supplier relationships for server and storage assets.
  • Produce operational SLA compliance report on monthly basis.
  • Collaborate with customers and other internal teams on infrastructure and configuration needs, best practices, and priorities.
