Programmer/Analyst

Research and Development is seeking a Programmer/Analyst to join its team in RTP, NC. The selected candidate will be responsible for instrument script writing, method development, and on-going support of new and existing automated laboratory processes.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within a team of R&D scientists to conceptualize, design, develop, and implement automated systems on liquid handlers to meet business priorities within multiple scientific disciplines
  • Projects include optimizing the performance and increasing throughput of existing extraction- and NGS-based methods
  • Where necessary, support production improvements and instrumentation updates and changes
  • Build strong rapport with equipment vendors and evaluate new technologies as needed
  • Prepare documentation for equipment validation and operating procedures in conjunction with clinical laboratory operations
  • Assist with user training, troubleshooting, and on–site support of automated systems
  • Participate in the development of a support services model for automation within production laboratories
  • Interface with support automation personnel in Laboratory Operations to foster a cohesive relationship
  • Some travel no more than 20% of the time
  • Work schedule: M-F 8:00- 5:00 P.M. EST

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Engineering, or Computer Science and 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Previous experience with automation scripting and method development or computer programming is preferred. Experience with Hamilton scripting preferred.
  • Strong, highly developed analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience handling projects independently and prioritizing them as appropriate
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • NGS experience strongly preferred
