What you'll do

We're looking for a Sr. Cloud Engineer working as a key member of a multi-discipline team in SAS R&D. Responsibilities include development and implementation of R&D Tools, Automation, and Optimization to enable SAS Product Development, Build, Packaging, and Testing. We work to improve efficiency, develop new process and tooling for our evolving business requirements, evaluate performance, and optimize process to deliver SAS Products to market faster, more efficiently, and ever improving quality.

You will:

As an R&D Sr. Cloud Engineer, you will bring a hands-on, can-do attitude and specialize in architecture and automation for our cloud and on-premises endeavors involving infrastructure and services such as Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform, VMware, OpenShift, and OpenStack. In this role, you will use your intellectual, communication, and technical skills, working across multiple divisions to understand their needs and translate those into solutions that achieve SAS business objectives in a collaborative environment. You will use your proven track-record as a Sr. Engineer to set the standards for sizing, building, deploying, managing, and monitoring fault-tolerant application infrastructure. You will use your ability to adapt and react to complex issues in a timely manner as our business needs and objectives evolve. Our work involves cross-team and cross-division collaboration with many exciting opportunities for pushing the boundaries of the latest in technology while developing robust solutions in our fast-paced industry.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and manage secure, scalable, performant, software-driven infrastructure to meet R&D requirements in public cloud and on-premises environments
  • Drive projects to requirements, propose options and available methods for achieving an outcome, always open to new approaches
  • Design processes with automation and self-service as first-class requirements
  • Integrate infrastructure and R&D development best-practices to provide a dynamic, flexible, environment that meets evolving business requirements
  • Manage the CI/CD platform upon which our products are built
  • Work within R&D to design, develop, and refine approaches to improve the current CI/CD pipeline
  • Think from an information security perspective as to how infrastructure could and should be configured to enhance the security posture, balancing security with usability

What we're looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related quantitative field or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform
  • 5 years of infrastructure experience including networking, storage, compute, bare-metal, and hypervisor platforms
  • 2 years of CI/CD experience
  • 2 years of Kubernetes experience, including microservices, pods, and security mechanisms
  • 5 years of practical, hands-on troubleshooting experience, including software, infrastructure, hardware, and configuration issues
  • 5 years of architecture experience using industry accepted best-practices for infrastructure optimization and supportability
  • 5 years of experience architecting and implementing information security best-practices
  • 5 years of experience using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies to provision infrastructure on cloud platforms and on-premises, including hands-on use of scripts to meet requirements, as well as the ability to understand coding practices and methods in order to design, implement, engineer, and troubleshoot

Other knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Ability to think analytically and effectively communicate issues and solutions
  • Working knowledge of Cloud Computing, with the ability to technically dive deeper into one or more public clouds or private cloud solutions
  • Working knowledge of networking, including switches, firewalls, access controls, and network segmentation
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure performance characteristics and downstream impact that infrastructure has on the performance of applications
  • Working knowledge of Operating Systems management and troubleshooting, including Linux or FreeBSD
