This is an exciting opportunity in Enterprise Data Services for an experienced Staff Data Platform Engineer with a strong background in Platform Administration and Support, executing within the Agile operating model. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about technology, platform management and can thrive in a fast-paced environment to support the maintenance and enhancement of cloud-based data platforms, especially Snowflake.This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office location (Hartford, CT; Chicago, IL; Columbus, OH; and Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Identifies, drives, and assists in the implementation of services to standardize cloud environment.
Build reusable architectures and services that can be leveraged by agile teams to improve development velocity.
Knows how applications should be engineered by following fault tolerate best practices, separation of duties, observability, and being operator friendly.
Delivers the tooling and capabilities needed to enable cloud compliance, metrics and reporting and cost management roadmap and strategy.
Translates business requirements into design and operationalization of cloud solutions, adhering to the principles, patterns and guardrails established by the architecture practices of the enterprise.
Brings a thorough understanding of DevSecOps, Agile methodologies with proficiencies in building immutable infrastructure through enterprise grade cloud deployments and operations through programmable infrastructure as a code.
Be seen as a trusted cloud expert for your aligned business units Act as subject matter expert in advising new, revised, and different cloud services or resources.
Advises on systems scalability and development opportunities that can be utilized or adapted to meet business area objectives.
Relentlessly research and present forward opportunities to enhance operational and engineering excellence within the team and to partners.
Continuously look out for advancements in the cloud ecosystem in the industry space, challenge within the status quo and look for opportunities to improve.
Provide expertise on decisions and priorities regarding the enterprises overall cloud operations strategy, consumption, and optimization opportunities.
Proven skills in communicating complex issues to cross domain stakeholders. Influence and champion technical decisions to enable The Hartford’s technology transformation.
Work closely with the Chief Information Office, Enterprise Data Office and IoT teams to design simple solutions that deliver business outcomes.
Provide mentorship of junior level staff.
Job Qualifications:
Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
4 plus years of platform engineering or data engineering experience and best practices.
2 plus years of operating production workloads in cloud infrastructure.
Snowflake experience is required.
Experience with database platform administration including performance optimization, governance, and platform support.
Experience with reporting and dashboarding tools like Tableau or Thoughtspot.
Ability to communicate at all levels within an organization and influence leadership.
Proven experience with software development life cycle, and knowledge of agile and iterative methodologies and toolsets.
Strong Technical Knowledge of Cloud Platforms, especially Snowflake and AWS.
Preferred Qualifications:
Exposure to Cloud cross account code promotion best practices.
Experience with Cloud security best practice and posture management, IAM policies, and maintaining regulatory requirements with third party tools.
An understanding of the practical application of DevSecOps and Agile methodologies.
Certifications and Licenses:
Snowflake certification preferred.CompensationThe listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees.
