Timmons Group is currently seeking a Senior Engineer - E3 to join our Renewable Energy group in our Charlotte, NC office location. Responsibilities include preparation of substation project design, studies, and technical documents in the support of the design of substation projects throughout the country; and other activities related to substation design work. The candidate will lead the project design team and provide supervisory direction for the design and layout drawing production including general arrangement plans, conduit, cabling, fencing, grounding, and control building layouts as well as wiring diagrams and schematics and the specifications to support procurement and construction of these types of facilities.Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:Develop scopes of work, conceptual designs, and execution plansPrepare engineering cost and man-hour estimates and schedulesPhysical substation design including yard layouts, plans, and details, grounding plan, lightning protection, control building, exterior raceway systems, and develop complete bills of materialArrangement of substation structure elements, and associate equipment and their foundationsDevelop section views and other detail drawings that show structures, prepare equipment and bus work installation drawingsGround grid design plan and equipment/structure grounding detailsSystem sizing studiesPrepare calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, insulation coordination studies, etc.)Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and participate in factory acceptance testingCoordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, etc.)Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced team membersRegularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnelProvide short term field support during constructionSkills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:Bachelor's degree in Engineering from accredited programMinimum 7 years related experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience) Professional Engineer (PE) is preferredProficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE / ANSI StandardsKnowledge of computer drafting tools such as AutoCAD preferredExcellent written & verbal communication skillsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsCapability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures. and criteria
