198400. Description:
  • Review the fiber path availability, optical budgets and microwave/cambium propagation to identify best design solution (sources: Fusion, OSP, OSP engineers)
  • Complete high-level design based on available paths and where the network connects to the existing optical network.
  • Verify DC availability for each site (sources: Fusion and power engineer)
  • Verify rack space availability for each site (source: Fusion)
  • Review circuits that need to be migrated. Determine which circuits can be converted to Ethernet and plan accordingly
  • Verify material required for project has been ordered. If not, order required material (sources: Maximo, product owner)
  • Prepare engineering job packages (EJPs) consisting of detailed parts / equipment lists, logical installation instructions in relation to individual RF field work and appropriate documentation (drawings, network diagrams, shelf layouts, etc.).
  • Utilize Path Loss 5.1 analysis software for RF link engineering
  • Perform proper frequency coordination based upon link type
  • Antenna/Feedline Design
  • Support Field Services remotely as they turn up new services
  • Work collaboratively with engineers from other disciplines to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Duke network.
  • Develop skills to be able to engineer and support a multi-discipline environment. (Optical, Microwave, Data, Power, etc.)
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
  • Manages personal self-development and maintains current knowledge of the industry to leverage more effective or emerging technologies.
  • Provides mentoring and training to junior staff

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree an Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or related Engineering field
  • In addition to required degree, five (5) years minimum related work experience
  • In lieu of Bachelor degree(s) AND five (5) years minimum related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 10 years minimum related work experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Direct hands-on experience with the Nokia 9500 Microwave Packet Radio (MPR)
  • Experience with the use of Path Loss 5.1 Analysis Software
  • Effective interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Experience with microwave radio systems including Alcatel- Lucent MDR 8000 series
  • Direct hands-on experience with Cisco routers and switches, Opengear and NetGuardian management/monitoring devices, and Cambium/Nokia microwave devices
  • Direct hands-on experience with Telecom UPS & DC Plant systems including Eltek, Vertiv, Powerware, and Delta.
  • Experience with wide area radio systems including Motorola (iDEN/SmartZone/P25) and Harris (OpenSky/P25).
  • Experience with transport systems including Alcatel-Lucent (DMX family), Cisco (15454 etc.) , and new generation Ciena (3900 and 6500).
  • Experience with Itron/Cisco and Ambient/Ericssion AMI infrastructure.
  • Experience with cellular modems including Sierra Wireless (Raven X, GX440/450).
  • Experience with SCADA networks.
  • Fundamental knowledge of Agile methodology, Kanban, and Jira.
  • Experience with Remedy tools and processes
  • Experience and proficient with Microsoft Office, Visio, SharePoint, Teams and Outlook.
  • Direct experience with a document management system and how to check-out, revise and check-in documents.
  • Ability to work self-directed and be a team player.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues that require significant freedom of action and sound judgment with little management oversight.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to build working relationships with different levels within the organization. Ability to work effectively in a work plan driven/team environment.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Develops and applies telecom technologies for the business.
  • Superior working knowledge of the telecommunications systems, associated safety policies, practices, work procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Superior inter-personal skills (listening, conflict management, approachability, negotiations) with ability and willingness to share information and transfer knowledge to others.
  • Ability to present information on technically complex subjects in an understandable manner in both oral and written form to business clients and senior management.
