JMT's Construction Management Team is seeking a Transportation Technician III to perform work as a lead inspector responsible for supervision of transportation construction projects in Hendersonville, North Carolina. This position is available in multiple locations within North Carolina and can be discussed with the hiring manager during an interview.Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Perform inspection of contractor’s operations on a variety of transportation projects including roadway and bridge construction to verify conformance to plans and specifications

Supervise and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout construction of the project

Measure and track quantities of pay items

Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector’s daily diaries

Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries and resolve field issues

Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening

Required Experience

Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and five (5) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Active driver’s license

Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans

Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems

Thorough understanding of DOT Standards and Specifications and Roadway Standard Drawings

NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred

Experience with local clients preferred

Working ConditionsWork is performed in the field. Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
