This OpportunityWSP USA is seeking a highly skilled Vice President, Nondestructive Evaluation & Structural Health Monitoring to join our growing Infrastructure Assessment team. This position is based in Mooresville, NC. This role presents an opportunity for a recognized expert in nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods to lead high-impact projects assessing the condition and performance of reinforced concrete infrastructure. The selected candidate will play a critical role in advancing WSP’s capabilities in NDE and forensic engineering, working on projects of national significance.Your Impact
Lead and perform nondestructive evaluation (NDE) of reinforced concrete bridges and structures using advanced testing methods, including ground-penetrating radar (GPR), impact echo, shear wave tomography, ultrasonic pulse velocity, and corrosion assessment techniques.
Provide technical expertise in the application of stress wave-based and electromagnetic NDE methods for the assessment of aging infrastructure.
Support major research initiatives such as the Long-Term Bridge Performance (LTBP) Program and other Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)-funded projects.
Develop and implement quality control protocols for bridge and infrastructure inspection programs, ensuring compliance with FHWA, AASHTO, and industry best practices.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate NDE technologies with structural health monitoring and asset management strategies.
Serve as a subject matter expert in industry committees, such as the American Concrete Institute (ACI), contributing to standards development and certification programs in nondestructive testing.
Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on innovative assessment methodologies for complex infrastructure challenges.
Author and present technical papers and reports that contribute to the advancement of NDE practices in the industry.
Who You AreRequired Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field with a focus on nondestructive evaluation of concrete structures.
12+ years of experience in nondestructive evaluation or forensic engineering, with a focus on reinforced concrete structures.
Expertise in advanced NDE techniques, including GPR, impact echo, ultrasonic testing, and corrosion evaluation.
Strong technical knowledge of FHWA, AASHTO, and ACI guidelines related to bridge condition assessment and monitoring.
Demonstrated leadership in major research projects or national infrastructure programs, such as LTBP or SHRP2.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a track record of published research and industry presentations.
Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and provide mentorship to emerging professionals.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. immediately.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s or Ph.D. Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field with a focus on nondestructive evaluation of concrete structures.
Active involvement in industry committees such as ACI, TRB, or ASCE.
Experience with programming, data analytics, or software tools for NDE data interpretation.
Hands-on experience with bridge and pavement evaluation projects for state DOTs, federal agencies, or private-sector clients.
