Together, we’re pioneering the future of science and medicine, developing products that enable researchers in the fight to save lives.Job Summary:The Manager, Upstream Biomanufacturing (Protein Business Unit) is a manufacturing leader effectively manages the day-to-day work of a skilled Upstream manufacturing team focused on performing expression, fermentation, and manufacturing operation for recombinant proteins.Responsibilities:Manage daily activities of Upstream team and provide technical support for coli growth in stainless steel Fermenter and Shake flask focused on complex Biomanufacturing and Pilot-scale production projects

Support on-time completion of client projects by actively participating in manufacturing work and providing technical training and SME guidance

Throughly understand manufacturing protocols and develop process improvement strategy for higher throughput

Translate project proposals into detailed manufacturing plans, assign work plans to team members, and ensure team members have information and resources necessary for successful execution of the plan

Assist Aldevron’s Client Relations (Technical Sales) Team with review of project opportunities and development of project proposals where needed

Support hiring and lead on-boarding of new scientists

Develop direct reports so they can assist in scientific support of client projects, including serving as technical SME on client calls

Serve as technical SME during calls with signed clients, or assign a direct report to do so

Support Process Engineering in the transfer of manufacturing methods from Aldevron’s research-grade manufacturing to Aldevron’s GMP manufacturing

Lead transfer of manufacturing methods from small-scale proof of concept Pilot run to manufacuring and perform subsequent transfer to large-scale research-grade or GMP manufacturing

Manage authoring and revision of Aldevron standard operating procedures (SOPs) relating to Biomanufacturing activities

Author and review technical documents, including project reports and data presentations

Scope new technologies in Fermentation and protein production process, review and

Possess flexibility and a willingness to work in a fast-paced environment that at times requires working 
hours more than a standard working day or outside of normal operating hours

Qualifications:Bachelors and 12+ years, Masters and 9+ or PhD and 5+ years of combined work experience in the field of Upstream E. coli Fermentation and recombinant protein manufacturing

Prior management of a biotechnology laboratory team is essential
