General Statement of DutiesInterns/Co-ops/Externs for the City of Cincinnati’s Human Resources Department will have the chance to immerse themselves in various aspects of the City’s operations. These experiences encompass a wide array of tasks, including office-level assignments and civic engagement. The specific duties assigned will align with individual interests, degree programs, and organizational requirements, fostering a dynamic learning environment.Primarily, interns will serve as the initial point of contact at the Human Resources Department's front desk. Alongside this role, interns will engage in a diverse range of activities designed to provide comprehensive exposure to HR functions and practices. Moreover, interns will have the unique opportunity to shadow department leaders in their day-to-day operations, attend civil service commission meetings, and potentially participate in city council meetings. At the conclusion of the internship, interns will share their insights and experiences at a staff meeting, providing a comprehensive overview of their time within the HR department.Required Education and ExperienceIn order to qualify for the Intern/Co-op/Extern Program, a student must:

Be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or a non-citizen with proof of eligibility to work in the United States

Individuals under eighteen will require a work permit

Be enrolled in an accredited institution

Submit a City job application for employment

Working and Physical ConditionsEXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:Any one position within this classification may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all of the tasks which may be performed.

Answer questions and complaints on the phone, in person or through email.

Greets visitors or agency employees; gives directions and/or provides information in person or takes visitors to various locations.

Assists visitors to the department with applying for employment opportunities.

Copies, collates and addresses material for mailing and routing; also receives, opens, and routes incoming and outgoing mail.

Revises or updates forms and prepares rosters, inventories, and/or mailing lists.

Files and retrieves materials, establishing new file categories and transfers or destroys outdated material according to guidelines.

Maintains Outlook calendars, reservations, and set-up for department conference rooms.

Formats and creates correspondence, reports, and technical/legal documents using a standard word processor/personal computer; formats documents using word processing software.

Keeps files of confidential or restricted information.

Estimates supply and equipment needs; handles the distribution of office supplies and equipment.

Perform simple typing on a computer.

Under the supervision of a professional, incumbent may perform special projects as assigned.

Research information needed for projects and reports.

Other duties as assigned.

Premiums are determined by age, amount of coverage, and various additional factors.Flexible Benefits PlansHealthcare Flex Spending AccountCity employees can participate in the Healthcare Flex Spending Account that can be used to pay out-of-pocket medical, prescription, dental, and vision care expenses for employees and family members. Dependent Care Flex Spending AccountCity employees can participate in a Dependent Care Flex Spending Account that can be used to pay work-related dependent care expenses. Participants can set aside money each year through pre-tax payroll deductions to pay for these expenses.Transportation Expense Reimbursement AccountCity employees can participate in a Transportation Expense Reimbursement Account (TERA) that can be used to reimburse expenses related to traveling to and from work. Participants can set-up a pre-tax payroll deduction up to an IRS regulated amount.Healthy Lifestyles ProgramCity employees can voluntarily participate in a wellness incentive program that encourages and rewards employees and their spouses/equal partners for making positive choices for better health. The City of Cincinnati will contribute up to $300/year to a Health Reimbursement Account for each the employee and their spouse/equal partner for meeting specified program goals. These dollars can be used to offset qualified out-of-pocket medical expenses.Integrated Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)This is a voluntary program that serves as an alternative healthcare option to traditional medical plans. If you have alternate group health coverage available to you through a spouse, equal partner, another job, or a non-city retirement plan, you may be eligible for this plan which reimburses you for the difference in premiums between the plans and your covered out of pocket expenses on the other plan.Retirement PlanThe City provides a defined benefit pension plan for part-time and full-timeemployees. New hires and re-hired employees are required to participate in the City of Cincinnati's Retirement System (CRS), regardless of previous participation in an Ohio State pension system or any another state or federal pension system. CRS is funded by employer and employee contributions, and investment returns from plan assets. CRS provides retirement and health care benefits subject to eligibility requirements. The following groups are excluded from participation in CRS: Mayor and Members of City Council; Sworn Police & Fire; Police Recruits; and Rehired Ohio Police & Fire Retirees.Deferred CompensationAs an Ohio government employer, the City offers employees the ability to participate in a 457(b) tax-deferred retirement savings plan.
