Under general direction, assists clinical investigators in assembling data for clinical investigations from multiple resources, and in extracting data from databases. Generates reports and provides oversight and daily coordination of data by establishing priorities for data flow and monitoring progress to ensure timely availability of information. Audits data for accuracy. Organizes, prioritizes, and triages data assembly and analysis to meet deadlines. Supervises the storage of all permanent documents.Responsibilities:Organizes and maintains an architecture for physical and computer storage for clinical research projects and their data sets.

Designs and implements computer-based clinical data extraction and entry, using desktop databases and data mining tools.

Oversees and coordinates the daily processes for extracting information from paper-based clinical medical records into variable-value pairs and transforms them into computer format, when appropriate.

Organizes, prioritizes, and triages projects to meet deadlines.

Collates information from primary electronic sources, joining these with data obtained from manual extraction and using desktop databases and data mining tools.

Builds analysis data sets to be used in subsequent data analysis.

Organizes all variables into medically relevant categories, generating a computer list by category headers for subsequent data analysis.

Audits data sets to assure completeness and accuracy.

Audits downloaded information for completeness and accuracy and submits corrections to primary sources when inaccuracies are identified.

Documents contents of research data sets.

Backs up, archives, and restores data sets.

Maintains and updates a periodic reporting mechanism (aka Study Tracker) for the clinical research team.

Participates in the development of new as well as modifications of existing, registries and databases to meet the changing and evolving needs of clinical research activities, reporting, and quality improvement activities.

Assists in maintaining an efficient, effective computer environment.

Education:Bachelor's Degree with a concentration in data management, computer science, or related field required.

Master's Degree preferred.

Knowledge of MS Windows environments, including MS Access and MS Excel.

Must have aptitude and patience for meticulous detail, data correctness and data completeness.

Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate, verbally and written, details of the project.

Demonstrated skills in managing multiple projects, each likely to be in different phases of completion at a given time.

Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy, appropriate in domain areas is strongly recommended.

Certifications:None required.

Work Experience:Five years of experience working with databases. Background in desktop database analysis using analysis and data mining tools.

Experience utilizing integrated MS databases. Background in clinical research is desirable, particularly in specific domain area.

Physical Requirements:Requires the ability to sit and be stationary for prolonged periods of time, normal or corrected vision and manual dexterity sufficient to perform work on a personal computer.

Requires the ability to walk to various locations throughout the Foundation and to function in a stressful environment.
