Up to $35 / HourThe Educational Sign Language Interpreter supports staff,students, and families by providing interpretation and translation services fordeaf and hearing-impaired students. The interpreter also effectivelyfacilitates communication between students who use sign language due to hearingloss, and students/teachers who do not. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Utilizes American Sign Language (ASL)
Interprets oral communication into sign language and signedcommunication into spoken English
Adheres to the rules of confidentiality required of allschool personnel
Establishes and maintains effective working relationshipswith teachers and other school personnel
Works closely with students, guiding them in their ownlanguage to help understand classroom and homework instructions and facilitateindependence
Contacts families to keep them informed of school events andcommunicate their child’s progress in school
Attends other mandatory training, orientations and meetingsat the request of the district
Ensures policies and procedures are compliant with Section504 and ADA
Maintains best practices, emerging trends and legislationrelating to sign language/interpreting functional areas
At request of school district participates in student careconference / Individualized Education Program (IEP)
Adheres to district and Amergis policy and procedure
Minimum Requirements:
State Board of Education Initial Sign Language InterpreterCertificate (as applicable)
Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA)certificate (as applicable per state regulation or client requirement)
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification (asapplicable per state regulation or client requirement)
Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicable
Current CPR if applicable
TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site
Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least 18 years of age
