Job Description

Avery Dennison is seeking a Distribution and Warehouse Team Manager to join the Label & Graphic Materials Group at our Cleveland Films Facility in Painesville, Ohio. The D&W Team Manager plays an integral role in our Operations at The Cleveland Films Facility. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, this individual is responsible for the ongoing material handling, receiving, and shipping processes including transactional accuracy. The Distribution and Warehouse Team Manager is also responsible for providing leadership and direction for all Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost reduction objectives that meet and exceed our internal and external customers needs.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • With guidance and support from functional management, responsible for developing a customer centric and collaborative culture across the shipping and material handling teams.

  • Provide vision and direction to increase organizational capability and deliver process excellence on a consistent basis.

  • Provide daily leadership to instill and reinforce an injury-free workplace and environmental compliance.

  • Daily management of all material handling processes and transaction accuracy.

  • Ensure inventory accuracy through consistent cycle counting throughout the warehouse

  • Respond to and correct material flow issues

  • Collaborate daily between Coating, Editing and Dock to ensure customer service needs are being addressed and issues resolved.

  • Coordinate the internal transportation and handling of materials between work cells throughout the process

  • Act as liaison between coating production and dock / S&R employees to ensure status of in process customer orders are known and appropriately handled.

  • Continuously train/motivate/coach/develop team members.

  • Measure performance of the team against performance targets and provide feedback for continuous improvement.

  • Provide leadership for continuous improvement activities including Enterprise Lean Sigma.

  • Drive execution of site improvement plans, help set operations improvement goals, ensure priorities and accountabilities are always clear within operations, provide resources and remove obstacles to ensure success.

  • Develop/maintain work instructions and insure compliance.

  • Manage staffing to economically meet business requirements and create cross training opportunities.

  • Train and provide development opportunities for staff. Ensure annual goals are complete and communicated. Ensure Performance Review system is up to date and regular feedback is provided to staff members.

  • Provide backup support to all managed job functions as necessary.

GENERAL OPERATIONS RESPONSIBILITIES:

Health & Safety: Consistently works in a safe manner with regard to self, co-workers, and manufacturing systems. Engages and inspires team members to make safety personal and facilitates Performs general housekeeping tasks and waste removal within department/group and assists other areas as required.

Enterprise Lean Sigma (ELS): Continuously reviews current processes and searches out improvement methods to improve product/process quality and reduce waste, rework, and unnecessary work that adds no value to the work or process. Supports safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Teamwork: Assists and supports other team members in meeting department and site goals. Participates and shares in performing all tasks necessary to run the facility. Contributes and participates in team decision-making. Provides support in project work and other special requests.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Logistics Management, or other relevant degree (or working toward degree) - Preferred

  • 5+ years progressive people or project leadership experience in a Manufacturing or Shipping and Receiving role.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with all functions and levels of the organization.

  • Results oriented focus and ability to take ownership to resolve issues.

  • Flexibility and willingness to initiate change.

  • High customer focus: ability to proactively identify and meet customer needs.

  • Ability to interface with cross-functional groups to define and execute overall requirements.

  • Ability to work well with all levels of management and employees.

  • Familiarity in process documentation and improvement.

  • Strong understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Excel/Google Suite and business systems (Oracle,, MES, Fastrack)
