The ED Technician I job duties may include but not be limited to the following activities: Assists patients with personal hygiene, feeding, showering/bathing as appropriate, ADLs, takes/monitors patient vital signs; bed-making and cleaning duties as appropriate.Position RequirementsObtain patient information as directed by the RN and communicate back results (vital signs, intake and output, height and weight).

Apply monitor leads, setup and assist with pelvic exams.

Apply Orthopedic Casting Lab (OCL) splints and notify the ordering provider of completion.

Conduct point-of-care testing for troponin, D-dimers, and glucose and post results to patient chart, as directed by the RN.

Assist the nurse in providing appropriate patient and family emotional support.

Clean patient room and ensure supplies are adequately stocked after patient transfer/discharge.

Transport patient to designated location as directed by the RN.

Essential FunctionsPerform EKGs as directed by the RN and present results to the assigned physician.

Collects laboratory specimens (blood, urine, and stools) as directed by the RN.

Label and transport specimens as defined by hospital policy.

Respond to call lights and patient requests.

Assist with undressing patients and securing belongings.

Ensure safe environment by raising side rails and ensuring call light within reach upon leaving patient, and orient patient/family to room.

Assist patients needing wheelchair or lifting support out of vehicles.

Use, clean, and return equipment to proper area.

Perform Quality Control (QC), report equipment failures, and participate in preventative care for equipment as per department policies.

Follow department and hospital safety and infection control policies as pertains to equipment.

Physical DemandsMedium Work: Exert up to 50lbs force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs frequently, and/or 10lbs constantly.Educational, Licensure, & Experience RequirementsHigh school graduate or equivalent required.

Keyboard and data entry skills as well as medical terminology preferred.

American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Previous Nurse Assistant, Unit Assistant, Medical Assistant, or medical clerical experience preferred.

Emergency experience preferred.
