Job Description: NOTE: This is a Hybrid role going into the New Albany, OH office location x2 days a week on Wednesday & Thursday and remaining days working at home .

It is written at the lower grade level and expectations increase with the higher grade level and will be filled based on commensurate education and/or relevant experience.

Internal applicants who are already in one of these grades this will be considered a lateral move.

Note: Electrical Engineering is the required degree program.
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing complex and high-level electrical engineering work activities and projects that require the application of theory to solve well-defined problems, or provide analysis. Exhibit fundamental understanding of standards, codes, and regulations relevant to the area of assignment. Develop relay settings for zones of protection within a substation, and perform peer reviews of the work of other engineers. Gain familiarity with pertinent equipment, materials, systems and business processes. Provide mentorship, training, and guidance to lesser-experienced engineers.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Review relay protection and control activities for 4kV thru 765KV electrical substation projects.
  • Review P&C scopes for electric substation projects.
  • Prepare and/or review P&C engineering and designs for electrical substation projects.
  • Participate in project scheduling, resource planning, and cost control for assigned projects.
  • Provide engineering support for project installation, commissioning, checkout and troubleshooting.
  • Review and approve P&C related work of other team members.
  • Model transmission system impedances and perform short circuit fault studies
  • Perform area protection studies and recommend settings for existing and new transmission line and station protection schemes.
  • Review, evaluate and provide P&C comments and recommendations on transmission system planning proposals.
  • Coordinate with transmission customers and interconnected companies on associated protection issues.
  • Perform activities related to NERC P&C standards.
  • Identify, clarify, resolve, and initiate solutions to protection and control problems through analysis of interruption reports and fault recorder records.
  • Contribute to development of system-wide protection standards for transmission and distribution station protection, metering and control applications.
Provide general P&C technical support, as needed, including the technical interfaces with Telecom, Operations, Transmission Region Operations, Station Engineering, Transmission Planning and Project Management.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Engineer Associate (entry level salary grade 5) This is an entry level position for new graduates who typically has 0-1 years of experience with a Bachelors' degree in ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING OR ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY in a program accredited by (ABET); Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.

ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelors' degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. OR (2) a Bachelors' degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Masters' degree or PhD in engineering with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program. Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.

Engineer (intermediate level, salary grade 6) Has typically acquired two (2) or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING OR ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY in a program accredited by ABET; Individuals with a Master's degree in engineering may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.
