38260BRTitle:Engineer Assc - EngineerJob Description:P&C(Protection and Controls Engineer)Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing entry level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS are listed below:

Review relay protection and control activities for 4kV thru 765KV electrical substation projects.

Review P&C scopes for electric substation projects.

Prepare and/or review P&C engineering and designs for electrical substation projects.

Participate in project scheduling, resource planning, and cost control for assigned projects.

Provide engineering support for project installation, commissioning, checkout and troubleshooting.

Review and approve P&C related work of other team members.

Model transmission system impedances and perform short circuit fault studies.

Perform area protection studies and recommend settings for existing and new transmission line and station protection schemes.

Review, evaluate and provide P&C comments and recommendations on transmission system planning proposals.

Coordinate with transmission customers and interconnected companies on associated protection issues.

Perform activities related to NERC P&C standards.

Identify, clarify, resolve, and initiate solutions to protection and control problems through analysis of interruption reports and fault recorder records.

Contribute to development of system-wide protection standards for transmission and distribution station protection, metering and control applications.

Provide general P&C technical support, as needed, including the technical interfaces with Telecomm, Operations, Transmission Region Operations, Station Engineering, Transmission Planning and Project Management.

Technical Expertise: Possesses entry-level knowledge and experience in the application of theory to solve well-defined problems or provide analysis, with guidance from higher-level engineers. Assists higher-level engineers in handling well-defined portions of more complex problems and analyses. Exhibits fundamental understanding of standards, codes and regulations relevant to the area of assignment. Gains familiarity with standards, codes and regulations relevant to the area of assignment. Gains familiarity with pertinent equipment, materials, systems and business processes.Leadership & Guidance: Coordinates work activities of others as required to resolve routine engineering tasks. Demonstrates working knowledge of appropriate policies and procedures; however, activities are generally monitored by higher-level employees to ensure work is performed in accordance with established guidelines. Performs work activities as assigned and coached by higher-level employees. Demonstrates ability to work with others in both supplying information and seeking assistance as necessary. Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or (2) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.Physical demand level is Sedentary.ENGINEER (GRADE 6)BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Has typically acquired 2 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET; Individuals with a Master's degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
