Engineer must be capable of performing the following mechanical design tasks, as specified by the particular assignment: Ownership of mechanical design and analysis of assigned components Collaborate with support functions as needed (stress, heat transfer, lifing, materials, etc.) Ownership of program plans and schedules associated with assigned components Ensure assigned components meet Client technical requirements Verify DFR (Design for Reliability), DFP (Design for Producibility), and DTC (Design to Cost) requirements are met Meet cost and weight targets on assigned components Identify and support cost reduction activity, including redesigns on assigned components Perform trade studies on assigned hardware to optimize design Coordinate with Product Definition to ensure all geometry, tolerances, specifications, drawing notes, etc. meet Client Infrastructure standards and system requirements (assembly stack-ups, etc.) Generate change in design (CID/DCI) documents to change drawings and parts lists as required Coordinate with Sourcing in hardware procurement activities, including establishing Engineering VSE (vendor substantiation) requirements Generate and deliver technical/program presentations to internal and external customers as required. May include Systems Tech Review, formal CEO Design Review, and formal GE internal analysis review (STAR – Structures Analysis Review). Support and be responsive to Systems Engineering and Engine Program customers. Provide manufacturing support to Client shops and Be responsible for producibility of assigned components. Hold Producibility reviews with Client supply chain CTHs as appropriate. Provide engineering dispositions for nonconforming hardware as required, if certified as an Engineering representative for MRB (Material Review Board) or provide substantiation for dispositions. Work with manufacturing sources to reduce shop cost, losses, and MRB activity. Coordinate with shops, suppliers, repair development, and field personnel in establishing repairs on assigned components Support turbomachinery and component testing of assigned hardware, including test plan development, instrumentation definition, test monitoring, data reduction, reporting, and documentation Coordinate with Product Support/Energy Services in customer interface activities such as establishing field acceptability and reparability limits, field problem resolution, and failure investigations. Write Design Study Summaries (Design Record Book entries), TM’s (Technical Memorandums), Coordination Memos, and Certification Reports as required to document Design Engineering activity on assigned components. Interface with global engineering organizations and other internal design organizations as required to support design activity on assigned components Design & Analysis
