Aerospace is looking to support our customers in cutting edge applied research and development programs and is in need of a scientist with an electrochemistry background. The ideal candidate will have education, training, or experience with physical, electrochemical, and/or material characterization techniques. The candidate will fundamentally understand electrochemistry, working mechanisms of fuel cells and electrolysis, fluid dynamics, and/or transport phenomena. The candidate must be highly self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment. This is a full-time position based in Cleveland, Ohio. This position will for an average of 3 days of in-office work and 2 days of teleworking

What You'll Be Doing
  • Characterize novel fuel cell (FC) and electrolyzer (EZ) prototypes and explore innovative approaches to further improve system performance.
  • Work with an experienced engineering team to design, characterize, assemble, and test multiple types of FC and EZ systems.
  • Develop an expert knowledge of FC and EZ stacks and balance of plant required to operate in a space (pure oxygen) environment as well as atmospheric environments.
  • Support customer efforts in coordination with FC / EZ original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to scale up FC and EZ stacks from single-cell to multi-cell stacks for advanced prototyping and potential flight systems.
  • Advise OEMs and flight customers of the unique requirements for FC and EZ systems in a spaceflight environment. Collaborate with internal and external teams to advance current research portfolio.
  • Prepare technical documents including publications, patents, proposals, SOPs, technical reports and other relevant documentation.
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelors' Degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering or other relevant discipline.
  • 2 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in a systems engineering and/or program management environment
  • Fundamental understanding of electrochemistry, working mechanisms of fuel cells and electrolysis, fluid dynamics, and/or transport phenomena.
  • Ability to take direction from senior technical experts and program management, recognize key deliverables and deadlines, and independently manage your own schedule and work to successfully accomplish the required tasks as expected.
  • Ability to guide technicians in performance of their duties to accomplish overall team objectives.
  • Ability to concisely communicate key status updates to engineering team and customer leadership team.
  • The position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. US citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • Advanced degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, or other relevant discipline.
  • Experience working with FC or EZ design, characterization, assembly, and/or testing.
  • Hands-on experience in fabrication of electrolyzers or fuel cells.
  • Experience developing and maintaining a detailed project plan and manage multiple tasks.
