Greasing the wheels behind the scenes, our people in Operations are the backbone of our Company.GENERAL FUNCTIONThe Sr Chemist leads physical organic and synthetic organic research and development, including new product and new process development.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Physical organic, synthetic organic, and process chemistry research and development

Method development, literature searching and reaction design

Chemical apparatus set-up, reactor loading (solvents, raw materials) and unloading on scale from milligram to kilograms

Chemical process monitoring and control

Purification and related processes (crystallization, chromatography, rotary evaporation, solvent recovery)

Characterization including spectroscopy (ultraviolet, visible, infrared) and data analysis. Record keeping and quality control (Laboratory notebooks, Certificates of Analysis)

Chemical equipment and instrument preventive maintenance and repair

Reporting, both written and oral (Standard Operating Procedures, Production reports)

Participation in R&D teams, open communication with colleagues

Compliance with safety and environmental regulations (OSHA, EPA) and internal practices

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s Degree with experience, organic chemistry

Expertise with analytical equipment, for example GC, UV/Vis/NIR spectroscopy, Mass Spec, IR, NMR

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Excellent problem-solving skills

Ability to work on individual projects in a team environment of other chemists and chemical engineers

Ability and willingness to maintain a safe and clean work environment

Ability to critically analyze professional literature including journals and patents

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

PhD, Organic Chemistry with emphasis in both physical and synthetic organic chemistry

Strengths in math or engineering as evidenced by coursework or job experience

Strengths in structure property relationships

Expertise in handling chemicals and chemical equipment on kilogram scales

Mechanical skills, including skills in designing and setting up chemical reactors

Electronics skills, particularly for instrument maintenance

Expertise with Microsoft Office applications, SciFinder, ChemDraw, etc.
