Job Number: 1017 Riverside Research's Applied Mathematics and Physics Solutions (AMPS) group is seeking a Plasma Physicist. Our team performs experimental and computational research in a wide range of diverse topics in plasma physics. Current research interests include topics related to the Earth's ionosphere and magnetosphere, the mitigation of plasma sheaths around hypersonic vehicles, micropropulsion, and the development of novel microstrip based plasma devices. The ideal candidate has a strong physics background involving plasma physics and electromagnetics and will help us expand the research program and provide modeling and experimentation capability for our various research activities. The candidate will participate in work funded by Riverside's Independent Research and Development (IRAD) program, and work carried out under contract for the U.S. government customers. This is a full-time position in the Dayton, OH area. All Riverside Research opportunities require U.S. Citizenship. Job Responsibilities:- Plan, design, and conduct experimental testing and validation of theoretical models and numerical simulations
- Simulate various types of plasmas (microwave, ionospheric, propulsion, etc.)
- Carry out both independent and collaborative research
- Author and coauthor technical proposals
- PhD in Plasma Physics, Engineering or closely related field
- Knowledge of plasma physics and electrodynamics at the graduate level are required
- Familiarity with various types of plasma modeling (fluid, kinetic, etc.)
- Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment as well as work independently
- Record of achievement authoring scientific publications, technical reports and delivering scientific presentations
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Security Clearance
- Experience designing, developing, modifying and validating complex algorithms for plasma physics applications
- Demonstrated conceptual and practical expertise in computational plasma physics, electromagnetics (EM), computational methods, or related area
- Experience with commercial software packages such as VSIM, USIM, COMSOL, HFSS, CST, etc.
- Experience with thermionically-produced, or large volume magnetized plasma sources
- Experience with electric satellite propulsion (Gridded Ion, Hall, Electrothermal, etc.)
- Knowledge electromagnetic propagation
- 2+ years of experience in computational and/or experimental plasma physics after degree was granted
- Proficiency in writing and developing research proposals
