As Quality and Technical Services Manager for our Tectum team based at our manufacturing facility in Newark, OH, you will be accountable for providing effective management and coordinationof the plant chemistry, process engineering, and plant quality assurance teams. You will also be responsible for ensuring the application of good science and for supporting new product development, quality assurance, cost reduction planning, and business process management.

Under the guidance of the Plant Manager, you will also be expected to play a lead role in driving growth initiatives for our Tectum Plant. This will include developing, implementing, sustaining, auditing, and improving management systems and for ensuring that your team executes the strategy of having a high level of on-time delivery, and improved lead times

What you'll be doing Advocating the Plant Safety Process by ensuring safe work practices and behaviors Meeting environmental and safety standards in accordance with plant policies, corporate requirements, and OSHA regulations Ensuring environmental and safety compliance while improving operating results Developing, implementing, sustaining, and auditing quality management systems Ensuring key product quality measures are achieved through controlled and predictable manufacturing processes Driving quality assurance activities and implementing quality systems Provides training and ensures competence of plant personnel who make product quality decisions; assists with troubleshooting and corrective actions; provides recommendations relative to disposition of material. Ensuring fair resolution of complaint handling and claims processes Identifying and scoping process improvement opportunities in quality, cost, service Making sure that critical-to-customer product attributes are maintained or improved Serving as the change management process owner at the plant Establishing effective product and process standards and specifications Collaborating with equipment and raw material suppliers to improve product performance, reduce costs, and identify new technologies Providing clear direction and encouragement to your NPD team Utilizing systems management and Lean principles to drive quality performance of the Value Stream and lean process improvements Developing departmental goals and strategies consistent with plant & corporate goals Guiding your direct reports to achieve production targets and key metrics Providing recommendations for new process improvement projects Finding and validating new raw material suppliers through process and product testing Promoting Lean transformation and related initiatives, including Gemba Walks Creating a plant quality board to allow for visual factory management Overseeing the continued evolution, development, and execution of plant quality processes, such as the daily board reviews, Q&S reviews, technical and quality assessments, and IPQA performance and attainment Increasing the plant's capabilities to drive NPD and improve lead times and quality Overseeing new product launches at the plant level to drive continued success Providing urgent technical support to plant operational issues 24/7 Determining appropriate staffing requirements to meet production Driving site assessment and employee engagement goals Promoting continuous learning and skill improvement amongst your team

What will make you successful Knowledge of quality management systems Robust presentation, facilitation, and meeting management skills Project management experience Ability to utilize data from multiple sources to quickly solve complex operational problems. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and basic skills in SAP and Minitab Familiarity with the wood fiber ceilings business, products, and manufacturing process

Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or related discipline. 5+ years of experience working within an industrial production environment Expertise with new product development and managing customer claims Track record of providing engineering and problem-solving support to manufacturing processes Knowledge of applying process improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing Experience with facilitating and leading kaizen events Previous supervisory or management experience within a manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications Lean or Six Sigma certification

About the location (Newark OH)

Tectum, Inc., a subsidiary of Armstrong World Industries, Inc. (AWI), is one of fifteen Armstrong plants in North America. Our Tectum manufacturing plant employs many people across 2 shifts who are involved in the manufacturing and shipping of our Tectum product. With over 60 years of innovation and experience in reducing noise worldwide, our Tectum plant has the right product for your noise problem.

This position is located in beautiful and historical Newark, Ohio, the county seat of Licking County, 40 miles northeast of Columbus. We also have another location in nearby Hebron. Licking County has lots to offer. We have an abundance of parks including Newark Earthworks, the National Historic Landmark where visitors can explore 2,000-year-old geometric earthworks that served as both cathedral and astronomical observatories for the Hopewell Culture.
