BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY: The Ergonomics & Training Specialist leads efforts in ergonomics through analyzing, identifying and modifying work practices to create a safer workspace. In addition, the Ergonomics & Training Specialist will generate training content and materials related to health and safety to allow learners acquire new knowledge, skills and competencies. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Design, Implement and Maintain MSC Health & Safety Training Programs
Designs and delivers Health & Safety regulatory compliance related training applicable to Federal (USA - OSHA, DOT, CAN or UK equivalent regulations) State and/or local regulations and MSC requirements.
Builds multi-level curriculums and programs for the organization related to Health & Safety training. Programs include but are not limited to: Powered Industrial Trucks, Lockout Tagout, Electrical Safety, Hazard Communication, Conveyor Safety, Manual Material Handling, Personal Protective Equipment, Fall Protection, Aerial Lift Safety, Emergency Action Plans, Crisis Management and Ergonomics
Generates and conducts multi-media Health & Safety training for various levels of learning and audiences. This may include on-line training, webinars, in-class sessions, train-the-trainer sessions, etc.
Coordinates with a third-party for training development and media as needed.
Designs implement and track training efficacy, completion and evaluations.
Integrates Health & Safety training into the current MSC Learning & Organizational Development system.
Maintains organizational Health & Safety training documentation as required.
Conducts Ergonomic Risk Analyses and Develops and Implements Actions to mitigate risk
Designs and conducts ergonomic risk analyses. Developing and implementing new ergonomic programs that apply to MSC locations.
Designs and implements an ergonomic scoring evaluation methodology to align with Job Hazard Analyses (JHA). Develop a priority of ergonomic evaluations and mitigation activities aligned with key stakeholders and budgetary/capex annual planning.
Designs, tests, and implements ergonomic risk reduction techniques, monitoring those techniques to ensure compliance and efficacy.
Crafts an office related ergonomic program for self-auditing with recommendations for mitigation.
Supports Regional Sales and Field Leadership with ergonomic programs and initiatives.
Support Incident Investigations and Workers Compensation Cases Related to Strains & Sprains
Reviews injury and incident investigation information to conduct ergonomic analysis and follow-up, as necessary.
Collaborates with Leadership to recommend engineering and/or other solutions to avoid similar incidents in the future.
Participates in a partnership with local Occupational Clinics in cooperation with the Health & Safety Team.
Facilitates Return to Work programs as they relate to ergonomics.
Develops relationships and maintains an on-going presence with CFC and assigned Regions using the following skill sets
Communicates to all stakeholders in written and verbal communication on Ergonomic and Training matters.
Understands and applies knowledge of computer databases to ensure regulatory compliance.
Researches and interprets regulatory data and information utilizing the Internet and other available resources.
Sets, follows, and meets project timelines.
Participates in cross-functional meetings.
Participates in special projects as assigned by the Director, Global Safety & Security, performs additional duties as required.
Attends training and education seminars as appropriate to learn regulatory, training and ergonomic requirements and industry best practices.
Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.
QUALIFICATIONS
What You Need:
Bachelor of Science degree or the equivalent relevant internal or external experience is required.
Zero to three years safety/environmental health experience required.
Excellent time management and organizational skills are required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Intermediate level of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) required.
Speaking and presenting to all levels of management.
Must possess creative, initiative and collaborative influential skills.
Data entry skills are required.
Bonus Points If You Have:
Degree and/or experience specialization in Ergonomics, Training, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety Science, Safety Engineering or Environmental Health is preferred.
Safety experience in manufacturing or warehousing is preferred.
Understanding of Workers Compensation System is preferred.
Other Requirements:
A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel up to 10% of the time are required.
Ability to be flexible with schedule regarding shifts, weekend work and as requested by Management.
