Summary

We are hiring a Product Designer to help craft the future of Heartland.

Designers serve a vital role here: from creating the experience of new features, to the craft and finish of every detail in the product. Our Design and Research teams live and breathe user-centered processes to create the best possible, end-to-end, experience.

We appreciate designers who think deeply, speak clearly, love collaboration and feedback. We're looking for someone who can thrive in our rapid cycle test and learn culture and bring fantastic ideas to a collaborative and super fun team.

As a Product Designer at Heartland, we won't box you into a specific, narrow role. Instead, you will work fluidly and collaboratively with the rest of the organization through all aspects of the design process. Because of this, you should have a broad set of design skills, and for this role a particular interest in mobile.

Our teams are widely distributed, so you must be skilled at remote team-building and communication. You can choose to work from a Heartland office or from home, wherever you are most productive and comfortable, and occasional travel will be required.

What you'll be doing:
  • Create a unified, end-to-end experience through close collaboration with cross functional teams (product, marketing, engineering and other business partners).
  • Influence the shape of the product with research and data while executing design work using high quality wireframes, mockups, user journeys, and cross-platform interactive prototypes.
  • Advocate for design by sharing your work and presenting cross-functionally, while being able to precisely articulate design rationale.
  • Working closely with Engineering to ensure a high-quality implementation.
  • Contributing to overall strategy and decision-making about product direction.
  • Helping with hiring, mentoring, and establishing a design culture within the company.
  • Help Design systems and patterns that will allow product designers and front-end engineers to focus on product-level problems and ship high quality work efficiently and consistently.
  • Define beautiful, expressive, and intuitive visual, motion, and interaction design with principles and patterns, across all of our product and platforms, like Web, iOS, and Android.
  • Deliver pixel-perfect static and interactive mockups.
  • Provide thorough guidelines and documentation that connects and resonates with the teams using our design systems.

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years industry experience as a Product Designer at a tech, product-driven company.
  • Experience designing on web and mobile (iOS, Android, Mobile web etc.) in an individual contributor role.
  • Track record in craft and great visual design.
  • Portfolios that are clear, clean, and easy to navigate.
  • Extremely high attention to detail. You set the bar for what we strive to do in our products.
  • Expertise in using industry-standard design and prototyping tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe CC, Principle, Flinto etc.).
  • Expertise in creating prototypes to communicate design concepts to users and project partners.
  • Aptitude for shipping and able to balance quality and time.
  • Ability to think through complex systems.
  • Passion for understanding user motivations and needs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working in an agile environment with lean UX principles.
  • You think in systems and are able to extrapolate and extend shared patterns and behaviors.
  • Eagerness to learn new products and the flexibility to adapt to changing processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or G-Suite products.

Eligible candidates may be subject to drug, criminal history, and credit checks, which will be conducted and used in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal laws.
