Business Analyst (Product / Distribution Systems)Permanent w/BenefitsPortland, OR (40% Remote - 60% Onsite, need to be local)We can not sponsor work Visas or CPT/OPT EADs for this opportunityAs a member of the Information Technology team, the Business Analyst is responsible for contributing to the development, implementation, and maintenance of product-based enterprise-wide programs with a primary focus on data/systems flow analysis to support the business in achieving strategic goals and operational excellence.Position responsibilities:

  • Ensures applications meet user requirements by gathering information from users; documenting technical requirements, architecture, and design deliverables; and continuously working with users to negotiate technical solutions against business requirements. Effectively communicate and define technology considerations within the context of business requirements to a business audience.
  • Conducts interviews and facilitate requirements gathering, process analysis and application design sessions with project stakeholders including internal IT partners and business partners .
  • Documents analysis of existing business rules, processes, and systems to recommend process and system enhancements to improve business performance and maximize the effectiveness of available technology.
  • Maintains an understanding of our business models, data relationships, and systems interfaces to determine requirements and formulate strategies for new and enhanced functionality.
  • Manages the product or application backlog according to department standards; opportunity to set and to influence standards
  • Recommends solutions spanning multiple technology areas, including application, database, middleware and security.
  • Serves as the liaison and collaborates with internal users, external software providers, and the IT technical staff.
  • Evaluates potential expansion projects, documenting requirements and design for new releases to support conversions and upgrades to vendor systems.
  • Serves as primary analyst for assigned applications; mentors secondary and other analysts in that domain area.
  • Participates and supports the design, development, implementation and sharing of system requirements best practices within the IT department.
  • Assists with development to meet business requirements by analyzing business needs, testing, debugging and documenting programs and systems in alignment with department standards and practices.
  • Assists with the documentation of application roadmaps to support strategic growth, including inter-related and data dependent applications, and future business needs.
  • Recommends tools, operating environments, design and development standards, metrics, and technical documentation as required.
  • Assist in implementation of system interoperability, data exchange, and process integration/workflow solutions using middleware and business process automation tools.
  • Provides ongoing client support for technical system questions and problems; serves as subject matter expert for designated systems; analyzes and performs second or third level support, coordinating with vendors and other parties as necessary, and tracks to resolution; recommends alternative workarounds for system defects until system solutions can be implemented.
  • Manages system users by creating, editing and assigning appropriate security levels where appropriate.
  • Provides on-call support where required.
  • Assists in developing user documentation and departmental policies and procedures that impact the use of application systems.
  • Provides technical training, guidance and resource support for end users and department staff.
  • Coordinates assigned projects. This includes being the point-of-contact for the overall effort.
  • Create and manage deliverables for self-led projects; log, track and verify resolution for all project tasks to ensure business and technical scope is controlled to meet quality, timeline and budget expectations.
  • Partners with business and IT teams to determine estimates on resources and timing to meet business needs and communicates to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Communicates risks and proactively recommends risk mitigation strategies to leadership.
  • Shares lessons learned to identify and to implement future department improvements at IT department meetings
Position requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university; 2-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience querying using SQL-based systems to perform data profiling, data cleansing, data analysis, and exploring and documenting data models is required for this role .
  • Ability to map data elements and business rules from source system to target systems.
  • Ability to use the Internet, e-mail, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio .
  • Ability to diagnose and solve problems. Uses logic to solve problems with effective solutions; probes all different sources for answers; can see hidden problems; is effective at analysis; looks beyond the obvious and doesn't stop at the face value answers.
  • Skilled in prioritizing multiple tasks and demands. Can orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish goals; uses resources effectively and efficiently arranges information and files in effective ways.
  • Skill in technical writing for documentation and design purposes.
  • Ability to initiate recommendations for an idea or position; pursues everything with initiative, energy, drive, and a need to bring efforts to closure.
  • Ability to learn quickly when facing new problems; takes initiative to learn without being asked.; open to change; analyzes both successes and failures for clues to improvement; not afraid to ask questions
  • Ability to collaborate with business and third-party service providers.
  • Ability to work with others in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to work in a frequently changing environment.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical users.
  • Skill in technical writing for documentation and design purposes.
  • Ability to write status reports, process descriptions, and procedures.
  • Skilled in facilitating and leading meetings in small group settings.
