Come work with a team of professionals dedicated to design excellence at Coffman Engineers’ Portland office.We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and quality-oriented Fire Protection Engineer with a minimum of eight+ years of experience to perform consulting services for internal and external clients. You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills along with a high-level ability to manage multiple clients and multiple projects at one time.Technical skills will include, but not limited to: automatic suppression system design; fire detection, alarm and communication system design; code analysis; egress analysis; fire resistant construction analysis; smoke control analysis; as well as general fire protection and life safety concepts and research.Desired Skills and DutiesDevelop client relationships, pursue new business opportunities, and develop proposals.Provide project management for multiple projects including project planning, staffing, financial management, and successful project delivery.Provide fire protection consulting engineering services to a variety of potential clients, including but not limited to architects, developers, owners, government, and insurers.Provide fire and life safety code consulting for relevant ICC (IBC, IFC, IMC) codes and NFPA standards.Develop fire models, smoke control models/analysis, and pressurization models/analysis.Review and provide consulting for life safety, building, and fire code compliance.Perform structural fire calculations.Develop fire safety strategies for special hazards.Deliver prescriptive and performance-based design strategies.Design fire alarm, fire detection, and fire suppression systems.Review, develop, and commission smoke control systems.Perform site visits and communicate with AHJ, architects, contractors, and consulting teams.Participate in and lead internal team meetings and external client meetings.Present design approaches to authorities having jurisdictions.Collaborate with multiple teams across multiple offices in a multi-discipline environment.Manage profitability of projects and maintain working relationship with clients.Perform research and documentation for internal and external distribution.Attend and participate in local and national trade organizations, such as SFPE and NFPA.
